6.0

you should use the 6.0 version rather than the 5.7 because the 6.0 has heaps more down low torque.

i wouldnt recommend the australian gen 3, personally id go a late model 5L out of a VT or if u have the money buy a crate motor from overseas.

The early model gen 3's have a fair few problems, oil usage, piston slap etc. etc. The PCV (positive crankcase ventialtion) hose is made out of a material that isnt compatible with oil.

Like i said, my preferred option would be a late model 5L mated to a 5 speed, would be awesome

this is true and thats why there are some very cheap gen 3's out. Best off to get a crate engine or late model

late aussie model built to better than us specs. If i was getting a crate motor I would go bigger. They do go pretty well

Dusty (Phil Cordell) was running a Gen 3 in a GU ute in the Xtreme winch challenge a couple years back. Went pretty hard. Also a few running in GQ's with not many dramas as well.

but you then need 3 grand of accessories to get it to be able to run, the wiring looms are friggen expensive.

New L76 6.0L crate engines are now selling for $4000. Holden have dropped the price heaps. You do need an ECU however (unless you want to run straight LPG and use anftermarket ECU for ignition controll.)

this looks exactly the same as my 2005 vz commodore engine it also has electronic throttle control, so unless you change the whole throttle body you also need to purchase a electronic accelorator pedal which means you need the computer

I'm putting a gen 3 in my 2.8 gu its pretty anoying to do but the out come will be good. Buying the motor is the easy bit getting all the other shiv to fit is the hard part. I went marks adaptors which i'm not to fussed on but at least they make a kit. use only a gu gearbox a gq will not fit, i had to cut out my floor. the exhaust system needs to be costom made so about $1500 - 2k for that, 2k for the adaptor and clutch and i'm expecting the electtrical work will be near a grand after the computer is played with.
I was originally going to put a 5lt in but i got a gen 3 for $1900 delivered so i took it.
I dont think you will need any more torque than a 5.7lt, just do it so atleast you can do a hill start i know my 2.8 wouldnt.
nissan 98 gu 5" lift 37 creepys, 80%reduction gears, front locker and a gen3 and no money.
