 We're back...

Got home yesterday.. Wow what a big weekend. Awsome event..
If Pete and shiloe keep doing what they're doing then they've got it in the bag.
Rod McCraw tip it on its lid in a steep gully.. Both ok, cars not so happy.
Jason Oswald rolled down a hill 3 times. Both ok. Bow shackle fell out of glove box and smacked jason in the chin, but is ok.
Lots of diffs and axles going bang.
Dave hickman busted all four axles by the end of day two and had a no wheel drive!
Friday night was the kick off with three night stages. We ran first up on stage three with an average run. Then to stage one where we took a stage win but busted a front knuckle in the process. We limped to stage 2 and got starting points only. Knuckle parted company on the way back to camp. Excavated recovered us and i left for croydon to pickup another housing, Thank Brett for the housing and thanks wazza for accompioning me on the drive. Got back to camp just before 2. Car was drivable by 4.30 ish. couple of hours sleep and we were off into town for the parade.
Upon returning to camp we realised we had no front locker so out came the front diff again.
Next stage LONG steep gully, dave hickman broke two rear axles and burnt out a winch motor. 3 hour recovery with the excavtor.. stage cancelled. SS6. rocky gully with a U bolt and back down the hill.
Another stage win and the only car not to winch.. onto SS4.. Staight up steep hill with foot deep talcum powder by the time we got there.. Up i crawl with the cable and strap. Hit winch out and winch goes in and keeps going. Brand new solenoid shit itself, pulled cable all the way in a snapped cable, Game over at ten point marker.. disappointing..
New solenoid fitted, Thanks ChompyD ;) , And new cable and away we went the next day.
Sunday, First two stage we average for us, THE rocky gully/waterfall was busy so we moved to next stage. Busted a CV joint and low and behold winch solenoid packed it in... YAY!!
Back to camp. Replaced winch motor and solenoid, Chris replaced CV and disassembled knuckle to get all the scrap metal out. Jonsey gave us curry to hurry up and get back!! Thanks for the time Jonsey ;)
Oh yeah.. just to add insult to injury the left front bead lock tube blew out while the car was sitting on the jack
Off we go to kick arse on the water fall.. and we did.. for the first twenty metres anyway.. then it all turned to tears..
We drove the first rock step which no one else had driven. Bled a diff pinion on the second rock step. Went to winch, busted a front CV as it came to rest against a rock then the NEW winch cable snapped.
Murphy was out to get us and enough was enough. Thanks to all the offers of diffs and bits and pieces but the event had already cost us a grand more than it was meant to so we headed home to our families..
Was a great comp.
Big Thanks to all the marshals who volunteered then time.
Thanks to the organisers for all the time and effort involved in the setting up and running.
Thanks to the cooks ;) .. even though we only really ate there once.
Thanks to the land owner/s
Thanks to all the competitors and others that helped us into the we small hours fixing stuff, Can't remember all the Names sorry but you know who you are,
Big red toy, Scotty and mates, The excavator driver, brett and wazza for the diff housing, Pete's missus Kali was a great spaaner handerer,
Rod McCraw and Matt Delbroco For whinch solenoids etc etc...
See you all next time with some bigger and better stuff...

Challenge class-
1st Pete Hoon and shiloe in the MWB Shreq. (in front of 2nd by 150pts)
2nd Rohan and Huddy in the Orange MWB thing.
3rd cant remember

Tropy Class-
1st Berry brothers Blue GQ Ute. very consistant with a number of first in class on a number of stages.
2nd I cant remember
3rd Matt (Sparky) Bolton and Juzza in the Yellow GU.

Last stage was canceled after the first car had winching issues and the 2nd car rolled the car 5times. No one was hurts and thankgod for the cage and harness. 4yrs ago this would have been a very nasty accident. But the guys walked out of it only shaken. Also from a quick look it didnt look very damaged (they drove back to camp). As it landed on its wheels. So no problem with it being upside down. As opposed to Rods, backflip. And Jason (tigger)'s roll (3times end up on side).
There where a couple of other flops though.

Well, we had a ball mixing with the big boys ... veterans of the sport ..... rubbing shoulders and driving against the likes of the Smiths, Pete and that awesome car of his, Rowans roaring v8, Rods big big balls in driving a car with such a short wheel base so hard. If anything it was a real confidence booster for me to show me what my truck is capable of doing. I was a little scared at times when walking stages. i hate off camber stuff!!!! i dont think i will ever get used to that "She is gonna roll" feeling!! Finally found out who this Ruffy character is .... Good group of Guys to be around. thanks to all the organisers, and anyone who helped me out with any spares i needed! See you all in Cooma hopefully . Need to fix truck since i rolled it.

Was Shithouse that they cancelled the stage after those two cars ran it.

Funnyest thing for the weekend was watching scott in the dynamic red GQ holding his hands up yelling at the GQ ute that was rolling down the hill towards his car to stop! bahahah

dissapointed from a spectaters point of view tho.....

I enjoyed the event and was great to see the big boys in the mix too. Id like to mention to the organisers of the event a few points.

- On site food vans didnt really seem to happen. Im sure a BBQ and some cold drinks being sold would have made a lot of people happy.

- The two days i was spectating both started late

- Marshal cars sitting next to tracks but not for use in recovery situations then requiring other compeditors to recover rolled vehicles. (exception when Tony jumped in the disco to recover Jason)

- Dropping the last stage on monday after a two teams had put a massive effort into it. Yes understandable if u felt the track was to dangerous. I really got the feeling u simply ran out and called it. Is this fair?

- The whole event just felt very disorganised

Please take this on board because i personally want this sport to grow into something far greater and professional than it is today. Compared to other events i have been to in the last few years in victoria this would have to be the bottom of the list from a spectators point of view.

I really hope some of this helps and u do not take it the wrong way. I as a diehard supporter of the sport still enjoyed the weekend but i could see how some would not.

Thanks to the organisers im sure u guys put in a lot of hard work. Some great drives by the compeditors. Pete and shiloe u rock!

As we all wanted to go home!!!! We had been there since friday lunchtime, some longer!

From a spectator point of view maybe, but from competitors view (well mine anyway) it was awesome, the food for us was awesome!

Yes the weekend was dusty but not much could be done about that.

The stages got called off when it was relised that there wasn't enough time for every car to run them taking in breakages & lets not forget rollovers

Goodwork to all that ran the weekend & thanks heaps i had a ball :D

It was great to meet all the competitors & learn who's who, see you all at round 2 :D

Will the 3rd round of the Engel, the ATECO have two classes this year?

Came up on the Sunday for a look, on the whole for me pretty slow going from a spectators point of view. Glad I brought sandwiches and drinks.
Not sure who 4x4 inc are but as posted above they need to sort a few bits out if they want Jo public to come and enjoy the day, the ATECO and Vic Winch are far better catered for, and organised.

But it's another event on the calendar and that's a good thing, even though I was not competing it ws good to catch up with people, so for me a good day out.

For Jo Public I'm not so sure.

What about the point of view of the 2 teams that put in a huge effort and lots of $$$ in damage to compete in a stage that was cancelled?? I dont think that was fair.

From a spectator's point of veiw: As has been said the organisation could have been heaps better but great to have the series up and running and I'm keen as mustard to get to the next one!

I went up with a couple of mates and spectated on saturday stayed in spectator camp sat nite and spectated on sunday. When we pulled up sat morning we were told it was $30 to spectate and another $30 to camp the night, yep we paid up.
My point is, is that we are all trying to promote the sport not send people away and I do understand that there are costs involved in running an event like that but it needs to be a bit more realistic. I have competed, marshalled and spectated at plenty of other events before and the spectator issue needs to be seriously addressed as these are the people that spread the word about our awesome sport. I dont necessarily have all the answers just some constructive criticism.
Basically No showers No food pretty expensive campground to roll out the swag on hard concrete.
We did however enjoy the stages especially because of the close proximity to each other, and we did find the food van on both occasions. The chance to talk to all the competitors as we walked around on both days was good to, as it gives you a chance to ask them questions about their rigs.
I would like to congratulate Pete and shi for a fantastic all round effort over the entire weekend.
we will be back just make it realistic
cheers
