Mq Turbo questions again!
Mq Turbo questions again!
hi got my turbo kit for mq sd33 (thanks to mark from sydney) and its an aftermarket setup, the question i have is, on this kit instead of the throttle body being on the inlet manifold it is connected to the front of the turbo where the air goes and to the original air filter so where the turboed air comes out it goes straight into the inlet manifold is this right or do i have to change the throttle body to the inlet manifold
thanks
thanks
Yeah mate just leave the throttle body where it is the turbo will blow straight inonce spooled up. The injector pump measures air speed and adjusts the fueling to suit, Although if you could get your hands on a SD33T injector pump it has a boost compensaor built into the governor. Onces yours is up and running u may notice that it blows a little black smaoke until the turbo spools up.. Take a fools advice too mate be carfull with the old SD33. what year is yours? 1983 they added more cooling ports between cylinders to help keep them cool as they do run hot.
Ive been all through this crap except i got ripped with a 2ndhand motor. had a cracked head.

Ur imagination is the limit with most things. I ve got a a top mount 13B mazda rototry intercooler that i gotta put on one day. It appeals to me more because i live on a property, dirt roads mud grass seeds. If i were to use a front mount it would clog up really easy.
Just hack out the front where your intercooler pipes need to go with a air hacksaw, take off the air con pipes, do your work then just get it redone at a aircon place. They'll use flexable piping where they need too.

Well 8psi is standard boost on a SD33T and there is NO differance in compression between turbo and Non-turbo. Both at 21:1 ratio.
Depending what you plan on doing with ur troll you wont even need thermo fans just stick with clutch fan and shroud. But if you plan on towing heavy loads with the a/c on you will run into heating problems no matter what. I have new everything in my cooling system & yet it still fails to stay under 1/2 temp when in 40degree heat.
All i have is a locked up cluch fan adn shroud, and a 12" thermo fan on front of condenser that is on when a/c pump is engauged. The intercooler will help soo much. up the boost to 15-20psi if its a big intercooler.

mate has his set up so it blows thru the throttle body. runs 12 psi on a n/a pump with fuel would up lots
it does pump a lil smoke before boost but it hauls ass n has never gotten hot
i drove it to work all last summer here in brisbane and not once did it get past half

Hey Benny!
I got ahold of a pair of I/C top and front mount from a couple of rice burner's, after carefull thought I decided to use the top mount, as sterlo said, mud grass and other crap would just block a front mount. I removed the top and pre-cleaner airfilter assm, I am looking for a suitable replacement from wreckers at the mo'. I want a plastic "panel" type filter box, I am then plumbing a stainless snorkel to just behind the left hand headlight, then corrigated pipe from the airbox to front of turbo, in the pics I sent you last time ben, that big chrome pipe from turbo to throttle body is gone, I have a small 45degree elbow on each end of the I/C (same diameter 65mm), so it basically comes straight out of turbo, into top mount, straight to throttle body/manifold. This will give me very little lag, I will send you some more pics when I get the airbox, by the way ben I am looking at something a bit newer so I can go crazy with the MQ as rego is no-longer a build peramiter... muh hahaha ha
Oh and with the exhaust, all I have is a 3" pipe bout 1700mm long, striaght out of turbo, dump to the ground, Nice and throaty note with NICE spool up whistle, and not to loud for street. keep us informed how it goes mate!
p.s if your really keen for a front mount, pm me and you can have mine for cost of posting, mate's rate

There is no point running an intercooler with boost preasures any lower than 10 psi. At 10 PSI the compressed air will condense in the cooler also helping with cooling. I ran my SD33t motor at 12 psi with no problems at all though I wouldn't reccommend that on a sd33.

Hey Vanne
Yeah the old gal gets up too 95-100d coolant temp when towing. I mean towing more than 3.5 tonne, working like buggerey, 4th gear on the turbo all the time. never make it to 5th.
Ok thats all fair enough i can understand it getting hot when doin that but my argument is that on a hot day say 36-40d, it will sit on half not towing a thing. just crusing along with the a/c on. It doesnt make much different with the a/c on or off.
Enough money, time and stuffing around will get it sorted out. Around town the gauge dont move off a 1/4 or a coolish day. Big project going to try and join 2 radiators together to effectivly try and get 6-7 cores of cooling. If this make a big difference. custom made alloy radiator it is.
Hey anyone around north mel know of any mechanical jobs going

hey sterlo, if youve got airframe and engines tickets (LAME) Aircraft theres a gig up here at Chartair.
Back to the topic though, mines already got a factory turbo on it and iam thinking about stickin a topmount intercooler on it, how difficult would this be and what is involved? piping? modding the original turbo? where does it fit between btw? and most importantly, what can i expect in terms of extra output? also will it put extra pressure on the donk?
Anyone with linkage on how to do it?
cheers

Hi all, I know this thread is very old and I have dug it up from the depths. I am in the process of fitting a factory sd33 turbo to my n/a and I'm very stuck as to what to do about a throttle body. I have the standard sd33 injection pump so it hasn't got the throttle attached to it. If you could post any pics of what you have done on your setup when converting a n/a to turbo that would be very helpful.
Thanks
