following my recent "incident" ... ..

i lashed out and bought this. .



but i think i went overboard..

i wanted the 6000lbs winch but my friend decided when he ordered it that

i really meant i wanted the 12000lbs...
now ive seen it - its errr probably overkill..

*sigh*

i think i need to return it and go for the 6000lbs..

what does anyone else say?

Keep it, 6000lbs may not be enough in some situations, whereas 12,000lbs will be ample, however you can easily double it by using the appropriate accessories.

Its not just the weight of the vehicle you need to be concerned with, rather its the forces exerted on the vehicle that have prevented further motion. Obstacles on the track that are large and the vehicle is caught on, the suction of various muds that your vehicle is caught in, etc etc

12000 pound winches are typically slow as well, yes they can pull but do so slowly. See if you can get a 9000 or 9500 one, they are ideal and will single line pull almost all of your mishaps. If you do need to double line pull with a 9000 winch it effectively becomes 18000.

Fully agree, go for 9500. It will pull the truck without any worries, a 6000 pound will struggle in that sticky mud

I ve got a 9000 pound on the front of my LWB and I would not go any smaller.

Scott, no a 12000lb low mount will not fit between the Paj chassis rails.
It is way to big for a Paj a 9000lb is more than enough and if you use a snatch block you halve your line pull load.
I'm sure the Warn 9500lb XD is the biggest you can fit between the Paj chassis rails and even then it has to be mounted slightly to one side (about 20mm).
I have a Warn 9000lb with plasma and it never failed even from some very nasty stucks and horrendous shock loads.
The only complaint is the slow line speed.

we just fit a warn 12000lb winch to a izuzu truck at work today and phuck me its huge and heavy too.
that is certainly overkill for a little jabber, go for a 9000lb at most.
when i put a winch im my trol i probably wont go that big either

after researching all warn low mounts, they all seem to be the same size physically as what i have here. only difference is the lower spec (6000lbs, 9000lbs) weigh about 8kg less than the 12,000lbs one i have bought.

in that case, if i was to buy plasma/synth rope instead, id be back down to around 38kg as opposed to the 44kg it is now, which is only marginally more than a warn 6000lbs winch.

size wise they all seem to be around 21-22inches wide, which is the same width as what i have.

i will have to see whether this thing will fit between the chassis rails i guess when the bull bar comes off..

iv got warn M8000, 8000pd winch, seems to pull the little jabber pretty well. Only problem iv ever found is the crawl ratio in the jabbers isnt slow neough to keep the line taught when winchin with a slow mount.

but yeh, for when you need it, its great to have, got me out of the shit a few times
