195hp Tb42 Turbo ..
If you dont need a new clutch then dont get one!! Might as well see what happends and and get full use of the clutch you have!!
Dont do anything until you take it somewhere for a proper tune and see what they say. No use spendig $$$ and then finding out its wrong and has to be changed.

GQII Patrol YAY!!
Ive been reading a bit on holden forums and it seems for them to get decent figures from there VL turbo's they run 425cfm mixers with at least two b2 converters. Next step is to go twin lines and then you lose your fuel gauge sender. They run higher psi as well quite fine. good power from 15psi. 250 rwkw.
They can tell on the dyno if you need extra fuel. Did chapmans mention anything??

Yeah true mate might leave the clutch and see what happens..
Well i asked chapmans if it was running out of fuel or anything and he said it could have around another 70hp or so left he didn't seem to sure though..
Spoke to Gas Research and he said it tunned well!
Said it's tunned for eccomy down low when crusing around and then is nice and rich up top when it's hard on boost.
With timming it's got over 20deg at idle and i used a timming gun
hmm does that sound right?
Cheers

if you want big power chapmans are capable of doing that, theyve tuned Trev Hennings blue extra cab, it was getting over 400rwhp, but hes spent big dollars, ie after market ecu, CDI, engine mods plus a lot of hours on the dyno. hes also running gas reasearch gear.
id rather be running less power and have reliabilty and economy.

Thanks alot mate for that mate..GRINCH wrote:if you want big power chapmans are capable of doing that, theyve tuned Trev Hennings blue extra cab, it was getting over 400rwhp, but hes spent big dollars, ie after market ecu, CDI, engine mods plus a lot of hours on the dyno. hes also running gas reasearch gear.

Yeah i don't want my car to be always breaking down etc that's why i want to up the boost to like 12psi or so no higher and intercool it which will make it all run alot more efficent etc..
Cheers
Rick.
Thanks mateGRINCH wrote:as much as i hate to say it chapmans would be the best on the coast to tune your set up, as most of the gas places wont touch a moddified car.
As for your clutch, go and see Dave at crusin auto spares in Nambour. he really knows what hes on about, just dont go brass button as its a prick off road
I rang Gas Research and they suggested Tony Motsons in Brisbane and i don't mind driving there for a tune that will make the car peform better .. Like i have said i don't mind paying the $$$ but i hate paying alot of money for barely any difference or a sh1t job etc i always like to have a improvement of some sort that justifys the $$$..
Thanks alot
Rick.
Well if Gas research are saying that the tune is fine then you have to look at other things. I would be trying to get the turbo to boost a bit harder more early on ie make the full 8psi 1500rpm earlier. I would then be getting an air box from a commodore or an EFI patrol and plumbing that into the gaurd so its out of the engine bay. Then you can start making up heat shields for the turbo and extractors.
Also you said that it gets a bit hot when boosting. I would be taking out your viscous hub and filling it with silicon oil to make sure that its working 100% when needed. Maybe even lift the back of your bonnet to let out some more heat or put in a rearward facing bonnet scoop. All of these can be done by yourself and pretty cheap.

Lots of ricers do this becuase its the drift look - it started because you have to lift the bonnet to fit an RB20 or RB25 into a silvia, it's got sweet fuck all to do with helping cooling.
You actually make it worse by lifting it, so dont lift the bonnet, it has a rubber seal for a reason --> to force the air past the motor and under the car.

It actually hepls a lot and has helped me sort out some heating issues....that rubber seal just stops the hot engine bay air getting into your vents. Tell me how lifting the back of the bonnet and allowing hot air to escape easier while driving and after shut down can possibly be worse? You actually make it worse by lifting it,
Yes i do understand ppl also do it for the look

In the early 20's, engineers discovered a high air pressure area in front of the screen and fitted vents to allow the air to enter cabin. Racers cottoned on and fitted rearward facing bonnet scoops to allow it to push down into engine bay where there was a carby cowl to catch it. Lifting the back of bonnet does the same thing and it does work. BUT it is illegal because it is very unsafe. Imagine a huge hit and where the bonnet will travel as it is forced backwards, through the screen. Personaly I think the bonnet would have folded in half first before coming of the hinges, but that's what VicRoads engineers have decided. Ps don't post back arguing with me, these things are either documented or gazetted (VicRoads), not my thoughts. I 'm just saying it like it is. Sorry for hijack again Mulisha.
can i use a mate to position while i screw?
Thanks guys heaps for ya help!
Well i went to the wreckers today and picked up a VT air box but it has a hole in the front right corner so i'm going to look putting a pipe into that for air from the front of the car. Thinking of getting a funnel from supercheap and cutting it and make it so i could a fit a 3" pipe onto the small end that way i would get air getting forced into the air box..
How well do pannel filters "filter" the air as i want it to filter good when at LCMP and that place gets dusty and also up the beach.
Also rang some guy that has those Gkteck Intercoolers and i said that i'm interested in your 600x300x100mm cooler for a nissan patrol and he said wow what engine do you .. you going to be hitting big numbers are ya? I replyed with umm not really i'm hoping 160kw or more with 12psi and a cooler and then he said i wouldn't go that big for that sort of power i would recommened a 400x300x76mm cooler which with with the end tanks is 630mm' long.
He did state this :
Generally it's best to go the smallest one that will be big enough (if that makes sense). In your case with under 200hp at the moment just about any intercooler will be ample.
Is that true ? He said that size cooler will be good for 250rkw.
It's a bar and plate intercooler and he also said bar and plate cools better but doesn't flow as well as tube and fin.
The cooler is $160
He said there cheap becuase i buy a 20ft container full of them at a time.
Also another movie i took the other day was a hot day but u get the idea.
Also some pics of my temp after going thru the gears under boost from 0 to about 100 almost flat to the floor. Does that temp look to high?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDVPlbxmF0A
PS: The Speco temp sender is the thromstat housing would that be why it goes to over a 100 sometimes had it to 105 almost 110
Thanks alot guys

Most newer cars (and I think GQ's?) have little hooks on the hinges, to prevent the bonnet from being forced back into the cabin, severly injuring the driver/passenger.BowTieGQ wrote:In the early 20's, engineers discovered a high air pressure area in front of the screen and fitted vents to allow the air to enter cabin. If you lift the rear of the bonnet, you will be preventing the little hook from doing it's job.
It may be illegal to double your power output, but power won't decapitate you or turn your head into a bonnet emblem!

Where do you get those white gauges? They look sweet, Ive got to take my dash of because the lights behind gauges crapped themselves lol.
Sounds awesome, what blow off valve you got? Im going for a hks ssq or maybe a monsta copy of ebay. they only 79 bucks. See how i go getting a 2nd hand hks one.

I made the guages myself just scanned the orginal ones and then got my brother to photchop them.
Well i'm going to fit this airbox now and see how i go.
The blow off valve i don't what type it is it came with the kit i didn't really like the sound of the other ones anyway bit to common i wanted something a little different.
Cheers

turbo
was that foot flat in the 0-100 video. sounds awesome but my stock tb42 (extractors and exhaust) with 35's gets to 100 in less then 15 seconds. makes 130rwhp.
i dont know how many dollars have been spent but in my instance an increase of 65hp isnt a great deal for big money.
but i hope you get there with it and end up happy with its performance. i have seen it around once.
cheers

Before the car got it's turbo put on it had a 2.5" echaust with extractors elec ignition and few other bits and this now goes fair bit harder...
I think once i get a intercooler on it to cool down such high intake temps it should run a fair but better and then i'm thinking 14psi @ 2800rpm would be a hell of alot better considering at the moment makes like 5psi @ 2800rpm.
If u do look at that graph it makes like 4psi down low and then it slowly builds up over the rpm range ... i wouldn't mind knowing how to change that so it boosts hard down low and doesn't take for ever to reach some decent boost level.
Also last night went out driving and when i went up this kinda steep driveway when i got to the top i stopped and i then pulled the handbrake on and when i went to acclerate the bloody thing stalled ....so i tryed starting and it wouldn't start at all sounded like it was trying contantly but just wouldn't fire so i rolled back down the driveway back onto the flat ground then it started almost staright away I know people used to say carbys when on a step hill will flood and shit but i thought a Gas Rsearch Throttle body would have been different .. this would be a pain in the ass once i get my lift and want to go 4wding ...
What should i do ? Is there something i need to change like a balance pipe or something ?
Thanks alot guys
Rick.
A speed camera would have prevented that!
Rick,
probably a strange question to ask as you have been having some fun and also sorting out your tune, but how have you found your fuel consumption with all these mods.
I understand that in order to make power you need fuel and air and the turbo obviously gives the potential for that but at what price. Has the fuel consumption gone through the roof.
Have you taken it out on a nice steady drive to compare your economy figures to previous steady drives?
PS You replied to an earlier thread that your white guages you made up needed replacment, are these the new ones. Also is that a blue dash? Did they come in that colour or is that a filter on the lens.

Well me driving around taking it easy and then giving it a bit fair bit gives me
With the turbo: 3.9 - 4.0 KMS Per Liter of LPG..
Before the turbo with extractors impco gas gear: 4.0 - 4.2 KMS per Liter of LPG.
I used to drive it to about 3 grand before most gear changes now i usally when driving normal change at around 2400rpm as i can use the tourqe...
With the turbo now i don't ever really rev over 4000rpm and it pulls okay but i think heat is killing the power i think.
With the dash it's still factory gray just the cam on my phone and those gauges have like a thick paper over them and IMHO they look quite good for 20c in paper and ink and about 1hrs cutting the holes out for 4wd and handbrake as i wanted it to be perfect like most things i do (try to do).
Hope that helps
Rick.
Also what PSI do these engines stand up without on the edge? I was thinking 14psi and a intercooler ? At the moment it's reaching 8psi at 4000rpm so i hope that will make a few extra hp
Thanks
Rick.
A speed camera would have prevented that!
Cheers Rick, your economy is not too bad after these mods....at least your getting some fun out of your engine for similar consumption. Probably you have just made the engine more efficient.
