Front axle seal kit
Front axle seal kit
Putting a seal kit in tommorrow (Sierra)
I have not done a solid axle before
Is there anything I need to know or should look out for eg special tools required
With the felt seal does this need to soaked in oil first?

fool... (no not myself....)
is this the kit you used??
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/4X4-SWIVEL-HUB-K ... dZViewItem
Any dramas? things to be aware of??
what was the motivation to replace them?
iv noticed a fair bit of side play in both my front wheels lately and a bit of a knock steering at low speed.. fingers crossed this sorts things out..

In case foolsp33d wants some extra hints aswell. Recently did both of mine. I personally used a kit from suzisport, dont know the ebay one.
I definitily agree with the earlier posts of cleaning the balls, and if you dont get new KP bearings your a fool
.
If you don't want to empty your front diff oil out, jack up one side of the front axle (articulate it in effect), then the oil will sit down low enough to pull one side out. DO the other side opposite of cousrse. Of course if your changing front diff oil then its pointless.
Put something in the disc brake calliper (i used a timber foldout ruler), then tie the brake caliper out of the road. Then you dont have to bleed brakes.
Make sure the king pins go in the same location and same orientation they came out. I used a small punch to mark them before they were removed.
Defininetly clean out the CV's and re-pack them with new grease. I used Castrol LMM, but there may be other similar. Make sure you also pack the new KP bearings with this stuff too.
When sliding the rubber and felt seals on, put over the top first then slip over the bottom, its easier this way. I don't like the cut it method.
Clean your front axle and leafs before you start that way mud and other garbage doesn't get inside your axle.
I think this is just about it. Allot of its common sense but it might help someone doing this.

thanks for the quick reply highway!
much appreciated. What did they sting you for the suzisport kit? the ebay one seems rather cheap which is why i was concerned about the quality..
am located out near heidelburg in melbourne so a quick trip to suziworld tomorrow will sort me out....hopefully...
in regards to the movement you think im on the right track replacing the swivel hub n king pin bearings? or should i be looking further up the steering line? box, bushes etc?

Did mine not long ago with eBay kit. Had every thing except wheel bearings. but did have wheel bearing seal and nut locking plate etc...
Anyway, job was alot easier than I thought, but took longer because of every thing that needed cleaning.
The bearing cups for the Kingpins were really worn but easy to replace.
The seal between the axle and CV was what failed in mine, letting diff oil into the CV breaking down the grease. Plus the rubber seal on the CV had perish and let water in. In turn, together this probably helped the drivers side CV to explode.
Best of luck.

the ebay kits are normally terrain tamer (don kyat) or croc county who use the same kit from chine, quality is good, failing that you can get kits from CBC etc these days as well, we had a few bearing mobs come around to try and sell kits
as said the stadard kits contail all but the whel bearings, but not a bad idea to get them as well
The job is pretty easy, if you have dome a CV its the same plus take the knuckles off which is pretty straight forwardan self explanitory

If the above post did not offend you in any way please PM me so I can try harder!!
Suzisport cost $45 a side for the seal kit, + I think it was $16 per king pin bearing. That $154. I thought it was closer to $160?, but thats in the ballpark anyway. Whatever you do, don't buy genuine suzuki for these parts, they charge like a wounded bull (a very tight one!).foolsp33d wrote:thanks for the quick reply highway!much appreciated. I personally didn't do wheel bearings, this is about all that could require doing on my frontend now; but if you have the time and money its probably a good idea.
