DETROIT LOCKER

Post by goannaoffroad »

G'day,
I've got a detroit locker hemisphere that need's a drive plate and a driven plate so it's going to cost about $500-00 in parts so I have two questions-
1 Is it worthy of repairing ,I've heard good and bad things about them.
2 Where is the best place to get parts, here or in the States.

No, not worth repairing, you can get em cheaper in the states, try Spidertrax, Randys Ring and Pinion, and I think Rocky Road

patzuki, are you thinking soflocker or ez-locker, if it's the soflocker, you'll have a hard time landing a new one from the states for 500.

if it's the soflocker goanna, i've got one in my 40 and i think it's brilliant

detroit make 2 different lockers

the Soflocker and the EZ-Locker.

which one did you get for that price?

did it come as a replacement for your spider gears, or was it a whole unit that you just bolted your crownwheel to?

then it's not a detroit.

The detroit Soflocker is a completely different kettle of fish than either the EZ-locker (the detroit version of the lockright). if the poster has a soflocker than needs repairing, it'd be worth the money to do so.

The locker I've got is'nt a soft or e-z locker it's a genuine Detroit locker same as you used to put in your XW GT Falcon etc'.
This type has been around since the '30's when they fitted them to log trucks.
It is a replacement hemispere like I said and the crown wheel bolts to it.
It has an energizer spring 2 drive gears 2 driven gears and a dog in the middle I know you can still get parts for them because I got a driven gear for another one last year ,cost $ 250-00.
Original questions still apply.

State side for replacement parts i would think. The proper Detroit lockers like your have are huge over there. They are usually pretty bomb proof too. Parts shouldnt be to expensive to import, as tehy are small and fairly light. Try a few off the websites for the larger driveline shops over there (google is your friend here) and email of some questions. I have sourced parts from the states and most places are pretty good when it comes to helping you out with postage costs etc on a quote.

bad_religion_au - Detroit make a fair few lockers and LSD style centres. Deffinatley more than just 2.
