What starter Motors....? Help me ahhhhh

Post by MUD-PIGSIERRA »

To start with I have looked at various starter motor threads and had no exact answer Im looking for....

Okay here is the problem, I have a 84 Sierra with all 92 model running gear in it. So 1.3L motor and gear box and diffs etc etc...

First I have checked the motor it is stamped 1.3 on the side and the engine code says it is a G13, so no doubts its a 1.3

The starter motor died and I need a new one elec says he cant rebuild this one, anyway I have noticed that the starter motor has had the mounting holes ovaled out and has a alloy bracket made to fit, when I took it too a elect shop to get a new starter they said the one I have is the same listing for the F10a I presume a 1L motor. they had it in stock and let me have a look but if I buy this I need to drill out the holes for it too fit and if I do it wrong the gear might not mesh with the fly wheel properly. So I thought I would just go and find the listing for a 1.3L suzuki at local parts place they give me one of the counter that is rebuild and I take it home and it is totally not going to fit it wont even fit in the hole and the bolt holes to mount it dont even match up...? THey claim there is only one listing for the 1.3L starter motor is this true...? Or are there various models.

Im hopeing that some one or someone knows a little about this or if you got a 1.3 if you could post up the part number on your starter motor for me so I can find out.

If u have a dead 1.3 starter than u can use the innards from a swift one and bolt them into the sierra housing.

Do you have a 5spd in there?

It sounds like someone has butchered the f10a one to fit the 1.3 in the conversion.

AFAIK there is only 1 for the sierras, there is two for vits i beleive.

I do have a 5speed though the actual mounting points have not been touched in anyway it still has the thread and metal gaskit plate around it that is between the gear box and motor. The starter motor I was given for a 1.3 the gear drive and head do not actually fit into the hole to mount it Up, maybe they just have given me the wrong starter motor all together....?

Ive had this happen to me once. The new starter motor which I got from revolution couldnt accomadate the bolts which are suppost to bolt to the engine. The original 1.3 starter did have a hollow circular section cut which allowed the bolts to bit properly... What I ended up doing was mix matching the two. I used the alloy housing from the 1.3 starter and fit it to the new one...

Worked fine...

sorry if this doesnt help....

I put the swift internals in the sierra housing and it all went it sweet.

I know some people convert 1.6 vitara starters to fit 1.3 sierras, apparently a gain in cranking power? This could be what you have on yours. 1 of the vit types is very good I'm told.
Just a wild guess

Thanks for help and any help that is coming so far. Any part numbers or pics of others starters will help out still.

I spent most of the day at our local parts shop looking through the book and have narrowed it down too two that hopefully might fit. Though both of these are made for Vitaras so I might end up with more cranking power who knows...?

The part numbers I got are

RUTS219 -close but rulled out because nose cone was slightly longer.

RUTS249 - For G16A or B
RUTS253 - for a G16A

Both exactly the same in specs except one is a little longer in overall lenght

I measured up all the stats of the last one including the modified bracket that was used to mount the 1L starter for depth and other reasons. and they equal the two Part numbers listed above for a G16A vitara

Here is the one that doesnt fit compared to the old one and the bracket it uses.

Here are two pics of a 1300 "fat" starter vs a 1600 narrow body gear reduction starter.

1300 part number M3T38981 or 31100-83010
1600 part number M1T72481 or 31100-60A20
