not 100% sure but after looking at mates hiluxs both new and old extra cabs id say the older 1's dont have anywhere near as much room a the newer 1's? could be wrong.

The back seat started in 89 with the newer body. There is not much room behind the seats in the 89+ model for people and even less in yours so I'd be hesitant trying to seat people back there.

As for the legalities, maybe ring an engineer if no1 on here has done it. I was looking at buying the extra cab model you bought on and off for about 5 or 6 years and have never seen it done. I've got an 86 chassis with a 92 extra cab body swapped on. Alas, I didn't do the body swap so I can't help you much there.

Good luck,

Ben

You could just put a bench seat out of asingle cab in it and have no worries getting it engineered although u still need an anchor for the child seat too.just a thought.
