water pump 2H

Post by cruiser60series »

Got a tinkling type noise coming from my 2H. Initially i thought it was my valve clearances but i did them today and they weren't out by much at all. So perhaps it is some sort of bearing noise, but they're such noisy buggers it's hard to pin-point any noise's origin.

I also noticed that my water pump pulley is wobbling a bit and appears asymmetrical when spinning.

Also she goes through a bit of water, which i blamed on a bad radiator which i will be changing soon.

I also had a minor belt squeal a while back but couldn't find any to be lose.

Putting all of this together could my water pump be shagged? Anyone else come across this.

My engine doesn't blow much smoke and pulls as good as any I've seen.
At first I thought it was a sea anemone, upon closer inspection I realised it was a funky ball of tits from outer space.

Remove the drive belt for the water pump and run it to see if the noise goes away. As long as the engine is cold to start with you'll have no problems running it for a few minutes with out the belt on. also then you'll be able to feel if there is any movement in the bearing.
Cheers Dan

i had a feel for movement before and if there was something it was very small. Running without belt is a good idea.
