I have a front auto lokka and love it but also want to do something with the back an air locker is too expensive so im thinking about putting an auto locker in the back but am unsure how it will behave on the road. will the clicking be loud and annoying, i only ask because i rarely hear it from the front when in 4x4 so i was hopeing that someone with one in the back can reassure me that all is good

Driven mates Suzuki which is Twin Auto locked (front and rear). They are 4WD System Lockers, they are great off road. It takes a bit more to get used to on road as when going around a roundabout if you put the power down a bit (especially in the wet) your going to loose the rear end.
In saying that i had no problems getting used to it and the noise factor was none, couldn't hear it above the normal road noise the car makes

What do you know about pre-load? This is really the most important part, besides seating of bearings etc. It can be done to approximation by using a spanner and carefully counting the turns of the nut until completely undone. However, you need to get this right done to a fraction of a poofteenth. Obviously if you have a pre-load gauge you will be right. as far as the inner workings go, as long as you are confident and dillegent in the stripping down, you should be fine getting it all together.
