Hilux diffs - ratios

Post by RockyF75 »

A mate of mine wants to put Lux diffs under his diesel rocky, and wants to know what year model came with 3.7's?? I think the set he's found is out of a 1988 model not sure though.

I searched, but couldn't find any year specific info. Just that some luxs came with 3.7's

I think the 3.7 only came out in cars like the soarer or possible 2wd hilux's... Don't quote me on that but never 4wd ones.

The closest he'll get easily is 4.1's. They are good because an 80 series front diff center will also work. mmm, High pinion

The 97-05 Lux's with the 1KZ-T (3ltr factory turbo diesel) had a 3.727. Not much help for the front with the IFS but the rear would be ok. Unless the diff centre could be used in an older solid axle housing, but I'm not sure.

Hmm k, well then I guess the next question to ask would be what's the lowest ratio's he could readily/easily obtain for matching front and rear? 4.1 or 4.8?

4.8 would be easiest, all petrol from 79-96 has 4.8
