if you can get diff's from a 4.8 GU they have the handbrake at the rear wheel's instead of the drum on rear of transfer like every other patrol

Don't destroy your 75 by putting some datsun half arsed shite under it, why not go 80 or 100 series diffs that can be built just as strong if not stronger than gq diffs without the probs associated with gq diffs, such as tailshaft running on an angle due to centre mounted rear diff, stupid handbrake setup and so on. And the costs are in the same ball park for cruiser stuff to datsun stuff. A set of longfields and stud and dowel upgrade on the rear and you'll be set, and pretty damn strong too.

The mid pinion 80 series rear is tough, most people know the front is crap, there are ways of utilizing the best of nissan and toyota in the front end, toyota 80 c/v and axles with gq/qu center, only drawback is it requires a custom locker in the front, basically a nissan locker with toyota side gears. Other problem is your limited to 4.11 as its the only matching toyota and nissan ratio.

You can overcome this with aftermarket gears.... 4.88s are available

Thats good to know although there are some questions about the aftermarket nissan gears, i know of people who have had bad experinces with 4.6:1 gears being soft. Hopefully this isnt an issue with the 4.88.
Probably similar cost to to transfere gears, the 4.1:1 gears will always be stronger due to the larger pinion.
