Oil leak...

Post by Dooley »

Well just wondering if it's a somewhat common problem.

Just got back from a trip and lost around 2L of engine oil over 300km, guess she's sprung a leak. :?

Looking under the car it's all over the place, dripping off the front diff, gearbox, behind the engine even on the back wheel cover and mud flaps.

Anyway, kinda can't tell exactly where it's coming from but best bet seems to be sump or rear main seal.

Any chance either of them gives out with vibration as I did go down quite a few corrugated tracks ?

Probably just try the sump first if no one can shed any light.

top the oil back up..... wash it all off and go for a quick drive... should soon be able to see the source. Better than just having a stab in the dark at what it might be.

True.

Narrowed it down to those 2 pretty much.

I want it to be the sump though. :D

Front and top are clean, back and bottom are covered in oil.

Rear main is about 2 hours, maybe 3
Check your dizzy o-ring, over the back of the block, these tend to leak, and the oil runs down the back of the block and all over the rear of hte sump and gear box bell housing.
