how good are your brakes
how good are your brakes
just had the rear brakes done and oh what a difference it has made. I already have the bigger vented LWB vit brakes on the front and now with the rebuilt rears it will almost toss you through the screen. on a hot dry road it is on the verge of locking up the fronts. hey howl like mad too

Lots of custom gear as I cant afford the proper stuff.

Hopefully mine are good also with rear sierra disc and vit front setup.
On my drover i thought they were ok, untill it dropped a pad out from being undersize. i redid front and rear and then it actually locked the 31s up.

The sierras are factory up front.suzuki boy wrote:How hard is it to put disks up front?
vit calipers and discs up front are a bolt on.
discs on rear are a kit for brackets or home booty fab.

My pedal feels a little 'spongy' for the first cm or two of travel and doesn't do much, seems to brake fine after that though.
Last time the brakes we're checked, adjusted the ratchet thingo in the drum to bring the shoes closer to the lining. Seemed to clear up that spongy feeling but it gradually went it back to how it was. So I'm guessing maybe that's just the point where only the discs are braking slightly as the shoes have moved out a bit again. Then when it brakes normally both are doing their job. That's my theory at least... makes sense to me.
Anyway seems to stop pretty quick last time I locked the wheels by accident, tool box on the passenger seat went flying into the firewall.

Bye, bye Sierra... :'(

I dunno how much to buy from like Snake racing or anything, i just did my own. If you want to do it, go to wreckers and grab the calipers off an old 323, theyre almost perfect for the job, and you shouldnt need a proportining valve either, as just out of pure luck the size of the 323 piston and shoe gives almost perfect proportioning. They also have built in parkbrake function too, which i have been meaning to get a cable made up for the last year.
Then i just used sierra front discs on teh back, made my own brackets and welded em on.

Give it a bit longer and there should be some cheaper kits coming onto OL. templates have been done for the kits already.suzuki boy wrote:Sorry i ment for the back!nicbeer wrote:The sierras are factory up front.suzuki boy wrote:How hard is it to put disks up front?

after that is a matter of getting a few hard lines and T piece . or i think on a NT they have two brake lines so maybe less.
I am not worrying about a brake proportioning valve till i am finished and the zook is on the road. see what there like then.
