If anyone can get the thread going that is in the Bible please send it to me because it wont work and Ive tried for yonks!
Otherwise I have just bought zuk with a swift motor in it and as you know they are a east/west motor so as it is now north/south there is S#*t hanging of the back everywhere!
Id like to clean up the whole thing and get rid of the holes that they have put in the firewall to fit the motor. The ECU and loom is a big mess and has been cut in so many ways it would take years to get it right.
Im thinking a better match would be to put a GTI head on it and just run the stock ecu etc from that. Trust me the way it all is this would be much easyer!
I know it has been done but anyone got any good info??

As you are probably aware, all GTI motors are east/west too and also have all sorts of junk hanging off the back. The stock GTI dizzy points straight out the back and will foul the firewall. Cutting a hole in this location will mean you have to remove the heater box.
no good in Vic!
There are two "fixes" one is a Mazda 323 GTX dizzy cap, this is quite low profile, but it will still be tight. Someone also sells a GTI right angle drive conversion, but it is very expensive and I am not aware of anyone actually ever buying one.
The best head is probably a G16 SOHC EFI motor from a vitara. Apparently these flow almost as well as the GTI, have more off road friendly cam profiles, and a right angle dizzy stock.
If you have a 16v sohc head already It might be possible to use the right parts from a vitara version of this head to get the engine in north/south dress. Not sure if the cam is dufferent for the right angle drive though.
as for wiring - yep, starting with a whole 1.6 efi engine loom is the way to go. Make sure that the loom and head came from the same car as there are one million g16B variations and it iv very hard to get an exactly accurate wiring diagram.
Given time and patience, you will end up with a 4 wire hookup.
I would try and get a FSM for the donor car engine. It will give you dignostic trouble codes etc along with a australian market wiring diagram - both invaluable for the conversion.
Steve.

The Vit head actually flows more than the GTi.Gwagensteve wrote:

The cams are the same for the 16v sohc heads but the drive gear on the end is different but can be swapped.
As Steve says, starting with a decent loom and the right wiring diagram would be the way to go. Might be worth the effort trying to get one from a wreckers.
