Post by Roctoy »

i am in the process of buying a new triton, or leasing it anyway for work, really keen on the turbo diesel model dual cab GLX R.

anyone heard anything bad about them?

and yes i like the shape (actually gets you more room in the back seats)

No reports of anything going wrong with them yet. Lot of guys say the deisel goes well in them. Rumour of another variant in the Triton range and could possibly have an auto option for the deisel due out in August.

took one for a drive today, fark they go good! Pretty comfy too, especially for a leaf sprung rear. Heaps of room inside and the only thing i don't like is the useless display compass readout thingy in the middle of the dash, but it definitely wouldn't stop me buying one that's for sure.

The other maybe downfall is the GLX R has a one piece bumper / grille, so you are limited in the bullbar choice for this model. ARB make one for the base model ones, which you might be able to get an arb and replace the grille with a bas model one but that's all getting too hard for a lease vehicle that will not really be used for hard stuff. Just towing and touring / camping.

Getting a price with options tommorow.

ECB Bullbar
Hayman Reece Towbar
Cariboy Canopy (colour matched)
Flares to be colour matched
and of course
the factory rear diff lock option.

should be interesting...

There is conformation of a new model (VR) saw the ad on Sunday.
This would be a good option for you as it deletes the hard cover/ roll bar (your getting a canopy) and also deletes the front nudge bar.

I need to get a updated lease quote myself with this new information (model)

I have a lease quote (queensland) with the ARB bull bar (which is available in the delux (intergrated fog lights) to suit the flared guards of the glx-r and gls.
Also with carryboy canopy colour coded rear diff lock and factory tow bar.

Would be very interested in compairing quotes (offline if nessarry) so we both get the best price.

Like I said I now have to go and get another quote on the VR with the accessories.

the first quote i got including my abn discount of around 4k was $51150

$1409.09 was a polished aluminium bullbar from east coast bars, I DON'T THINK SO!

Plus they hit you up $318.18 for metaillic paint (every colour bar white is metallic, what a croc!)

$227 to get the front 2 windows tinted to match the rest of the car (i'm sure anywhere would only charge maybe $150 at most to tint 2 windows. Considerring my LWB GQ cost me $300 to get the lot done including stripping the old stuff off.

Don't even bargain with them just lose their number.

I originally looked at leasing and was quoted $48000 for a GLS with tow, sunroof, tints, alarm, cruise control and the nudge bar.

In the end I bought it (can claim work use so will claim $$ anyway) and I drove away in a GLXR for around the same amount but with the ute liner instead of the alarm.

Interestingly North Shore Mits gave the lease company the best quote and gave me the worst which was around $54k for the GLXR.

Shop around.

Also when you get the flares matched up I'd recommend that you get the plastic POS rear bar done too.

Oh add in the rear bars as extras I got on the GLXR.

So you have got a quote on the "new VR"?
What was the base price, I've been on holidays so havn't anoyed the dealers yet.
10 GRAND sounds good though, more money to spend on the accessories.

Just followed a petrol one across the simpson desert and it did really well, but flogged out the rear bushes in the leafs, but that was due to being very overloaded, only had to be recovered twice on the sand dunes considering there's thousands of them to go over

Twice. As a passenger in about 1984, and again as a driver in August last year. On the first trip, a couple of girls reckon they counted the dunes - I don't remember the exact figure, but from memory it was a little over 1000, and they claimed there were 54 dunes between Big Red and Birdsville. It's now a gravel road.

Most "official" figures seem to be between 1000 and 1100. Who counts them, and how, I have NFI.
