Hilux 4Y Engine - Electronic Dizzy

Post by Mark2 »

The points dizzy in my 4Y is tired. Today I found an electronic dizzy at the wreckers in a 3Y engine. Its the type with the module and coil built into the cap.

Are there any dramas with this type of distributor?
Has anyone replaced their points dizzy with one of these? - any issues with the wiring?

OK - I had a look at the wiring on my mates YN67 Hilux fitted with an electronic dizzy. There are two wires going to the dizzy. Checked with the multimeter - one is power from the ignition, and the other??? I couldnt work out what it was for? Its not an earth wire and it doesnt seem to have a voltage with ignition on or when cranking.....

Does the second wire have to be connected to anything or will it work with just the one wire connected to ignition?
