how many k`s can a 80 series diesel do????????
hi ive been offered an 80 series sahara turbo diesel its got 500ks on the clock 1 owner my dad never been offroad always serviced only drawback is its auto. is there many diesels gettin around past 500ks????
If i just overtook you head to your nearest mechanic
it's doing well to hit 500,000k's. is it a factory turbo and what year is it?
if it's pre 95 replace the big end bearings. bolts and maybe the crank it's self ?? cos they have a tendancy of throwing them.
but toyota diesels have the potential to run to 1,000,000k's if looked after and u say it has a full service history

no matter how well its maintained, those pistons have still gone up and down billions of times, the rings would have to be farked, and id imagine the oil pump wouldnt be too crash hot either.
mains would be getting worn
does it still have good oil pressure?
YOu might be able to pull the motor and do a quick rering and replace all the mains and bigends. trouble is, when you rip the sump and head off, you have to decide how far you want to go, everything will be worn. Do you just rering, or new pistons? (means rebore or at least hoan) do you replace oil pump? do you have the head done??
has the turbo been rebuilt yet?

for 5k i would definately take a gamble.
but like shadow has said if things do go wrong i would replace everything at once, look into prices on complete rebuilds and you might get abit worried.
the real question should be; is it modified enough for it to be worth your $ in the long run if a rebuild is nessecary?
have fun, rezpkt

You couldnt handle it drivin an auto....it would make you climb hills better, and cruiser on the highway better...not to mention change gear into full boost....i love my sahara auto....it dies at 270kms from lack of maintenance....your dads is like my mates, 450000kms gxl t/d auto, just had its first rebuild on geatrbox....but ddnt need it..it was the TPS switch...and the motor is purring....keep oil and filters up to them and you should get 700ssfabricator wrote:hi ive been offered an 80 series sahara turbo diesel its got 500ks on the clock 1 owner my dad never been offroad always serviced only drawback is its auto. is there many diesels gettin around past 500ks????
Guys
Diesels go for ever IF maintaioned ok...NOTHING kills them quicker than water and dirt through air filters....AND tinkering fingers...my best advice is buy it, drive it, but dont try to power up it. You will find a set of rings and bearings and head service will cost 1500 if u do the work yourself, and it will do another 350. When things go wrong, they go wrong with a diesel, unlike a petrol, scores in bores can not be fixed with a hone and new rings .... they run too much comp....but on a good runner, you will onlyu need to clean up the top of the bore, and install new rings. Mine looked like new down the bottom, with 270...these 6 cylinders jhave sooo much power, they are never stressed if driven normally.

man that is cheap for a sahara... is it the 4.2 or the 4.0 lt?
ive been searching for a reasonable priced sahara ever since i sold mine.. the other thing to remember with the ks is not just the engine... people seem to forget it is 500,000 ks on everything that moves..
still though for that price you cant go wrong bud.
if you pass it up let me know..

I was in the same boat you were 12 months ago, but I did not get the car for that price and it had 100,000km less on it. Mine has just passed 415,000km, as I am not far from work I am only doing about 10-20 per year.
When I brought it I had a sit down with the Mrs to discuss what might need doing in the future and that it could go pop tomorrow, however it has been looked after well, I treat it well so all is good for now. We have the money in the bank for if (when) it needs it.
I brought it with maybe having to rebuild it the second year of owning it. But I do not think it will need it if I am I treat it right there is no reason why it will not see me though to 500k in about 4 or so years time.
Shadow is right though that it is not just 500km on the motor, it is door seals, mounts, bolts and 500km worth of dust as well.
It just depends on what you want to do with it, how long you want to keep it for and if something does go wrong can you afford to fix it.

If you dont want it then tell your old boy i will give him $7500 Cash today and it just so happens im in Newcastle tonight and Maitland most of the weekend. Your never going to find a Sahara under $15000 thats not a total pile of shit and run into the ground.
Most cars you buy in a car yard are likely to have had a hair cut on the Ks in any case. Unless its a one owner and you know the owner then you never know how many ks a car has realy done as its so easy to wind the ks back on anything that doesnt have an electronic display odometer.
The Auto is defianatly a plus not a set back. Anyone who says any different has rocks in their head.

if the engine was to die what would an exchange on a reco fully installed worth???
reco box???
reco diffs??
hmmm a offer war between me and ruff... im sure toyota would not give him much more even though he may be looked after...
a 1hd-t can go from $3000 all the way up to $8500... most you will find are in the middle of that.. reco box could be anywhere from $1800 to $5000..
reco diffs around the same.
if you can find decent used parts you can usually half all those prices or really search and you can pick them up for stuff all..
