G'day,
i've got a 94 Vitara JLX Estate Wagon with the g16b motor. Its got bout 200 thousand k's on it and although the engine runs well it burns a small amount of oil (probably the piston rings). Heard something from 4wdmonthly about using a thicker oil on older engines
Was wondering, what is the best oil to use in my vitara ?

Vitara Engine Oil
I got the same gadget with 230k on the clock. From about 70k it had Amsoil, then I lost track of supplies and went over to Helix ultra for about 60k.
I've recently tracked down another supplier of Amsoil so that's what it'll get from next change.
IMHO you'll get no real benifit from changing, stick with what you've had so far. Murphy's law says change and it could die
little engine that age, gotta expect some oil burning
and ALL engines will burn some oil. Mine uses maybe a litre in 5k

Check the valve guides before you worry about rings - the guides normally go first and are easier to fix.
I would only use thicker oil in a basket case of a motor. Stick with what you are running.
Steve.
