It will fit but problem is the pistons will hit the valves

I have been told by someone who has put the 16v vit head on the carby vit block, and he said that it is possible, there is enough clearance between the valves and pistons, unless you rev it so hard it starts valve bouncing (which is not good for any engine)

I am about to do this swap in the next few months, i will report on how it goes.

From what i have been told the 16v engines run the pistons with checkouts in them to clear the valves but the 8v dont have these checkouts in the pistons

I know from experience that 16V engines are freespinners - I wouldn't have thought that would be the case if the pistons had to be relieved.

In regard to overevving - if the stock 16V computer is used they are rev limited to (I think) 6500rpm anyway and they seem happy at that (no valve bounce) so I don't think that should be a problem.

they might be freespinners because of the reccess in the piston, ill go out and have a look this arvo- i have a 16v in the shed with the head off.

just checked it, the valves do open south of the head so on a 8v block it would not freespin, but that doesnt mean it won't run, i'll put some more thought into it. :)

You can install a 16v head onto an 8v block, I have seen it done (helped build the motor) and seen to flogged like a rental without issue.
If you break a cam belt you will be in trouble though (pistons and valves will come toghether in a catastropic fashion)
