1fz-fe 80 series turbo petrol /gas questions

Post by kangaroohill »

Hi guys

As the subject says i'm thinking of putting together a turbo kit for a 80 series petrol engine running on petrol and gas..

just trying to get all the info, do as much research as possible before i start..

iv'e seen the kit by safari, but am not that convinced by it for the $$ you are paying

I was thinking a turbo around the to4 size, possible compression change, aftermarket computer with settings for both petrol/gas, doubt the need for a intercooler because the boost would be quite low

what do you guys think and is there anyone that has a turbo 1fz ??

cheers

Nope but I'd be interested in what you come up with as a kit...

dont lower comp...i did and regretted it, more lag resulted. Best to keep comp as high as possible. Make steam pipe manifold and run seperate waistegate. You can easily move throttle body to passenger side of engine to run an accross the front cooler...there is an article on autospeed about the fastest cruiser on earth...worth reading and looking at piccies, he turnes batteries sideways which allows intercooler pipe access

Im also in the same situation owing a 4.5L 80 Series running both unleaded and gas & am seriously thinking of getting a turbo system.

But the question is whats the best option?
- Running a turbo with my current duel fuel system?
- Removing the unleaded system and running straight gas with a turbo?
- Or vice versa, removing the gas system and running straight unleaded with a turbo?

All help would be very much appriciated.

If you want to run gas with these turbos, you need injected gas, different system altogether that will actually increase power. dual map unichip to set ignition graphs for moth, and your away....AVO turbo also offer a 4.5 cruiser kit, it is the only one on the market now, and is one step better than safari as far as design goes.

Safari do a kit but it can be hard to buy, they rather the export market. We do custom turbos and tuning, there are a few ways to do it depending on budget. We would suggest a tubular manifold, Garrett roller like a 35/82 similar to a BA BF falcon, often I run a smaller A/R exhaust housing to spool the turbo faster. Depending on the power you want to make you will need, Gasresearch for the LPG, injectors, fuel pump, fuel reg, minimum an interface chip to retard some timing and adjust fuel but ultimatly a management system, this is a top engine and makes big power. Give us a call we can work out a price 5975 2642.

Ive heard the injected gas has problems with the boost pressures, you would need to speak to Parnell or similar...would work well thou id say...
