Thermo Fans on 5ltr GQ?

Post by M.Lewis »

i have a GQ lwb with the 5.0 efi conversion and was thinking of running thermo fans
the water pump has just sh!t itself, its the 2nd water pump in the 5 years the motor has been in. im thinking maybe the spacer for the engine fan is putting extra stress on the water pump.
i dont have any heat problems so if im not happy with thermos i can always go back to the old setup.

i did a search and looks like most people run the AU twin thermo fans. a mate has a davis craig 16"?? he wants to sell me but im thinking twins would be better?

anybody got any ideas, pros and cons about what setup i should run? especially from people running the same motor?

take the spacer out, and enlarge the fan cowling so it comes closer to the motor,

BA thermos are better then AU from what i was told they pull more air, they have a good shroud on them n are only about 50mm smaller around then the GQ rad easy to mount

I second that, i do not run a spacer and extended the fan cowling on mine and have not had any cooling issues.

Go the AU twin thermo, they work a treat. I race a gq with a 250kw 5ltr with au twins with a standard gq radiator with no problems. stays at 85-90degree c the whole time. $200 trade from cov's .

yeah they dont really like water and mud

i got this from GQ/MAV bible section. it might help:

When you install OEM electric fans with the CORRECT controller ( does not have to be the Davis craid POS, ( just install 2 line temp switchs to come on at different temps), run the correct rated relays, correct wire, with a auxillary OFF switch for water work, you cant go wrong.

this is how i want to set mine up when i get around to it

but does anyone know if this affects air con??

Hi there y'all :P

Just curious :? , just finished putting a smick 3.5ltr Rover V8 (dynoed @ 550 rwhp) in my GU. Want to run thermo's cos i plan to comp FCUK out of it & now with all the extra Ponies under the bonnet I need an Awsome  cooling system to back it up. I realised the standard engine fan set up was drawing too many ponies from my right foot when a new Clubsport R8 blew me off at the lights yesterday.

Anyhoo, my question is what is the difference between the AU & BA fans? :?
You know how I know you're ...?

I've got EL Falcon fans on mine. Fitt very nicly on 3 core Patrol radiator. Mine are controlled by Link ecu and have an override switch to turn them off for water crossing etc.

First off, a nice aerodinamic clubsport against ur Patrol which has the aerodinamics of a brick! no matter wat engine u got it aint ever gonna keep with a clubsport and secondly there is no way on this earth u are gettin 550 rwhp from a 3.5 rover, group "A" racing back in the 80's only just broke the 300 hp at the flywheel, i have a 5.0ltr rover and that gets 340bhp at the flywheel so not bein nasty but those figures are totally unacheivable.

demo, bhp is at the wheels, not flywheel, hence the acronym standing for BRAKE HORSE POWER
turbos are nice but i'd rather be blown
