finally bit the bullet.....

Post by SimplyPV »

title says it all..... was really heavy into the 4x4 scene with my 1990 daihatsu rocky(feroza) SX(toyota is parent company). drove it for 4 years until it became unrealistic to get it where i wanted($10k), so i dropped 4x4ing. along with that camping went... so for 2 years no 4x4. offically became a web-wheeler. always thought toyota would make a decent truck as i was very impressed with the rocky.

got a huge tax return this year... decided i missed 4x4 and camping soo much that i'd look around and see what was feastible..... man these toys are in real high demand cuz they are expensive as heck for a beat up pos or unrealisticily priced for a bone stock 84-85(specific year i wanted).

after 2 months of daily searches of craigs list consisting of 3 states, i struck gold. or red i should say.... 85 toyota came up for sale late saturday morning before easter... was 3 hours away over mountians... called the guy and he said he had someone coming over that afternoon and again the next morning to look at it... from the pictures i knew this woudl be worth the drive downt o check it out, so i told him i was hooking up the trailer to my friend's truck and i was coming down there tonight to pick it up. drove 3 hours through a nasty storm in a moutian pass... got there, looked at the truck.... paid him 2k cash, loaded the truck, and didnt get back home until 3:30 easter morning.

so here she is, my new pride and joy. while she needs some work(which is why i bought her, and will make her rightfully mine), all of the major stuff i wanted on a truck were already there. PO shedded a few tears as he saw me drive off with her in tow, since he had owned her for 4 years.

she has: 3.5 inch suspension lift(cant remember what kind, but not blocks), cb, ariel, heavy duty brush guard, lights(switched), stereo, 32/32 webber, header(idk brand), 2.5 exhaust, 32" mud terrians, tool box, g series tranny swap, and preinstalled wiring harness/switches for new add-ons.

first thing i need to do is get her ready as a daily driver. biggest thing it'll take in order to do this is overhaul the interior. truck is mechically sound... but interior needs work. i want to install new foam inserts for the bench seat, modify the armrests into cupholders, spray bed liner into the cab floor pans, install new cluster display with tach(arriving soon), new dash pad(arriving soon), and inclineometer(arriving soon).

after that, i'll start working on getting the under carriage painted and bedliner applied, get the bed covered with bedliner, pull out some dents, replace some missing trim pieces(for windshield), rattle can paint job, then save $$ and rebuild engine with stage 1 cam kit, install 5.29 gears front/rear....

all i can say is, im excited!

Good buy, looks ready to go with minor work and ready to modify big time.

Do a build up thread on her.
