lokkin at buyin new car 100 series cruiser mainly for missus so it has to be auto i want a turbo diesel and all i can find is saharas is there another model turbo diesel

Yep, 100 Series 1HD-FTE GXL Intercooled 4.2 litre Turbo Diesel with IFS.
Rare on the second hand market.

Why buy something so big for the missus to drive ? I cant see the point of buying a barge just to do the shopping and run kids to school.

the oldman has one, awsome car to drive plenty of go. There not rare, but one with low kays are. If its been well serviced, oil every 5k and filter every 10k, kays arnt really a worry.

The early model GXL turbo diesels had a 4speed auto. Though still a good tranny, not as good as the later 5spd which is WAY MORE smoother shift and better fuel ecconomy. Watch out though, late 2002 they brang the 5spd out which had a few problems. You can tell which one is the early 5spd is by seeing if it had a dipstick on the tranny. If it doesnt have a dipstick, its the latest model 5spd which is a fully sealed unit and do not get serviced or touched. Though they say that you dont need to touch the tranny, it wouldnt hurt after 150K km's to buy the toyota oil and try to siphon the existing oil out of the drain plug

Sorry for goint OT, but 150k on the original ATF, your joking arent you? Mate, every 2 years, drop the pan change the filter and put in completely fresh ATF. You'd be surprised at the amount of shit that settles in the pan.

Edit: Hmmm I read the LCOOL page, how strange. I would still rather put fresh ATF in it every two years, I'm sure plenty of off-roading boys will burn the ATF on a few occassions.

There are many auto transmissions these days that are "sealed for life".
Life being 3-400,000km.

The manufacturers have made it quite difficult to service them yourself.
