98 3.0d hilux. of late when starting the motor cold, after warming the glow plugs for the normal time when i go to start it the starter spins but it seems like it doesnt quite engage or like the clutch is not quite out or something and it doesnt start but can hear the starter spinning. try again immediately and it always fires straight up. doesnt happen all the time but more often when the motor is cold. never happens when the motor is hot. have just had the gearbox recoed and new clutch put in. cant remember if it happened before that.
any ideas?
cheers
dave

Hilux starter motor issues

Sounds like it's not meshing right can your hear it spining or is it grinding might pay to just drop it out and see condition of teeth on both starter and flywheel if there was something wrong with either of these they should have called you as soon as they knew, if it's this it kind of makes me think they may have done it by not telling you but they also have to do something strange to damage them that bad. also while it's out lube the moving parts a bit and see how that goes
plenty of parts on the bench
