COST OF ENGINEERING?
Im hoping someone can help me:
looking at buying an FJ40 with spring over, but its not engineered.
1st, what does that usually cost to get engineered?
and where is my best bet coming from Newcastle to do so?
2nd, how do i know if its a good job or a shabby one that will cost a fortune? i only want it to go hard on weekends.
thanks in advance.

i think a place down ere in melb will do a whole car for bout 500

Depends on what the RTA want. Engineers work on around $350 an hour plus a call out fee. If he gives it the once over, and the RTA accept it and stamp it off, you're looking at around 400-450. When the RTA say "we want this documented, and this tested, and bla, bla, bla" and you have to get more time put into it that it gets expensive.

from what i hear
From what I've heard over here any bodylift requires and engineers certificate.
My 2"inch suspension lift doesn't require one from what I can tell.
Now apparently the doozy over here is... you have to do a lane change test which means hiring a race track out to preform it in. Pluss you must trailor the car to the track and then pay for the engineer.
Track hire will be killer expensive unless you ring your local car clubs and find out when they have organised a track day.... then try and tag along with that.
Does anyone know if that's correct? Is there a cheaper way. Prehaps I should put it on bricks untill i finnish doing my suspension mods I'm not paying to go through all that twice.

You are right about the lane change test. But I am not sure if you will require one for the body lift only. It is up to the discression of the licencing people. BTW ORE in osi-park will do a lane change test for about $650 without an engineer (that you will have to organise). That is track hire and driver.
For any mod in WA you need pre-aproval. That is you must submit a submission to the licensing section about the mods you wish to do and they will let you know if you are allowed to do them. Once you have approval you will most likely need to consult with a engineer whilst doning the mods. When the mod is finished and the engineer is happy with it you have to go over the pits. The licencing section will stipulate if you need to do a lane change test or other test to get it legal.
See this for some information http://www.dpi.wa.gov.au/licensing/myvehicle/safe/modifications/index.html
Here is the submission form to apply for mods http://www.dpi.wa.gov.au/licensing/forms/vehmodapp.pdf
NOTE: As stated on the Licensing web site ->
Modifying a vehicle without obtaining prior approval from Licensing Services is a breach of the Road Traffic (Vehicle Standards) Regulations (1977). Using or permitting to be used, a modified vehicle without this approval is a breach of the Road Traffic Act.
If you modify your vehicle without the necessary approval you may void you vehicle insurance and be liable for prosecution.
So currently with your body lift you are in breach of this act
BTW I had my body lift engineered about 4-5 years ago.
Chris.
i heard you can drive you own rig in the test and its mostly driver skill vehical knowledge.
I think i stand a better chance of keeping the wheels on the ground than someone who has never driven it before.
