FITTING 33s ON A 75 SERIES
gday lads,
I have done a search but cant quite find any exact info.
I have a 1987 75 series cab chassis and wanna upgrade from the 31s to the 33s. What mods will be needed to successfully do so?
if there is a thread abot this already please just post the link up for me as i cant find it!
cheers,
CW

On a stock 75 they'll probably rub very slightly in the top of the front guard (can't comment on the rear as i don't know what the tray's like - except that the inside of the tyre will probably rub slightly on the chassis rail). You may also have to wind the bumpstops out a little on the front. The rubbing on the chassis and spring depends on your rim offset more than the diameter of the tyre
I ran 34" (~35.1" IIRC) jungle trekkers on my stockish troopy (1-2" spring lift, no body) and they only rarely rubbed on the front, and that was bearable.
Now i run 37" claws and still no body lift. Just shifted the front axle forward and did some trimming - It really isn't hard to get big rubber under a 75.

Tetanus rolling on 37's
I have the same vehicle and have 33x12 bfg muddies on an offset 15x10 black "Mangel" rims, I needed 2" extended shackel and 2" spring to fit them. But it might be worth doing 2" body and tray lift (very easy) in case you use 35"s one day, I did this no regrets, still feels really solid and safe and truck looks good.

hey croatian,
I ran 33's age's ago and all i had was a set of 2" extendard shackle's.
they only rubbed on the rears on the chassis.i also ran 36 et2's with 2" inch spring 2" body and extendard shackles and drop shackles, 1 and 5/8 inch back space rim's and shifted front axle 60mm forward.

Extended shackles are illegal in WA and so is any combined lift over 50mm without lane change test (already you have 25mm of lift going to 33's from 31's.) So do you want to keep whining like a little girl and stay on 31's or learn to pee standing up and get a lift / some extended shackles and 33's.croatian4x4 wrote:sounds good but that leads me to one more quest.
im in perth, now aren't extended shackles illegal? and if they are will i just get away with a 2" suspension and 2" body lift running the 33s without rubbing?
Mate... im here in perth too, and i have built numerous over 8" taller 4bys, and i am now building my own over 10" taller one.... honestly i dont think they laws are realy what people think... i think is very generalised. Also this lane change test crap is a load of shiet... no one i have ever seen has done one...croatian4x4 wrote:sounds good but that leads me to one more quest.

Laws are laws and its spelt out in black and white in various documents that have been posted on neighbouring forums, what is legal and what is not in WA. Generally those sorts of documents aren't for your or my interpretation to do as we please, and thus what they say goes. THEN it comes back to whether you or I want to abide by them, or disregard them and modify our vehicles beyond.
How many of these 8-10" lifted above standard fourbies you build have been in fatal accidents or the like resulting in an investigation etc etc. None im sure but that is not to say it wont happen. I reckon if it did happen it would come back and bite you on the arse pretty damn quick when the investigators start checkin out your 10" lifted rig. The fact that it is layed out in black and white what is legal and what is not could leave you in a rather precarious situation where you will either have very empty pockets or worst case scenario might constantly be watching your back and moreso your backside.
I imagine your insurance becomes null and void once you exceed legal limits without the appropriate permits and documentation.
Don't get me wrong, i'm all for modifying vehicles and its a risk you take. But for someone that is obviously considering the legalities of modifications it pays to look at all sides of the story.
I hear ya, and yes this is always in the back of my mind... but i dont think ill ever do anything about it untill its too late.... oh well my tripKaMo wrote:

I only needed a 2" body lift to run 33x12.5s they ran fine.
I have also ran them with greasable shacksles (the bigger ones by about 25mm) and slid the axle forward 1" on the tray, they lightly touched the chassis on the back, can be sorted with different wheels.
hands and mums dont count!!!
