Hi, haven't been on here for a while as i haven't had a 4b. But i am keen on getting another.
I have had 2 rovers a 1985 3.5V8 Rangie which i found to be pretty good car except it would oil up the plugs when going for a 4b weekend.
The other a 1996 disco which i had nothing but problems, mainly it would just cut out whenever it felt like it, bad surging problem, sometimes just wouldn't turn over and over heat.
So what i am looking at is a 1990 range rover fuel injected 3.9V8, so my question is will this have the same injection setup, computer ect as the 3.9 diso i had?
And are the problems i had common of this engine or was it just one of those freak lemons?

1990 Range Rover?
Moderator: Micka
The rangie and the disco will virtually the same engine - ECUs etc should all be the same - Your disco obviously had a problem - they aren't all like that.
I have a 1991 3.9v8 rangie and it is fine done 220,000k
plenty out there with more ks on it - my motor is a little tired
and I am looking at buying a second hand disco motor from about your year to replace it.

"It was just an ordinary day, and you saw them. There were guys in their Porsches, "Look at me in my Porsche, ha ha!" and they were overtaken by a van. Driven by a girl!"
1990 rangie
Hey Mate
I picked up a 1990 rangie end of 05 for 3500 no rwc though that had about 200 on the clock. It was about the best one at the time for the least amount. Generally good nick

rangie
The car has been pretty good, normal things previous owner I think was both new to 4wd's and range rovers - ie didn't have a clue - he'd only had it about 18 months so I think quite a few things slipped past the previous rwc. so bushes, tie rod ends etc all have been replaced. The VC unit was going well till I broke the housing and replaced it with a LT230. Came with extractors but about to replace exhaust the rest of the exhaust - blocked and very thin in places. I've done the air cond, recore the radiator, fuel tank rebuilt and just replaced the ZF auto, actually want to fit my P76 motor at some point out of my old 2 door.
I watched them for quite a while, this was the cheapest that I saw at the time. This was in Brisbane too which was an advantage.
The engine seems to be ok - fuel consumption is a bit high but believe that the exhaust is causing some of this, roof racks just removed and I'm kinda a lead foot. Doesn't blow smoke, plugs are fine etc
