hey guys, this has probably been covered before but im just wondering what sort of figures u get outta a 80 series 4.5lt petrol motor?
mine is completely stock and im tossing up weather to sell or not, it's a great car but it's getting a bit expensive to run so im wondering if people have fitted extractors and exhaust systems and what sort of figures they were getting after fitting them??
also theres the LPG option, what sort of figures would i expect after fitting this? is there ne thing to look out for what fitting gas? any companies in Brisbane u guys recommend?
cheers, Nathan

from what I have read 18-20 litres per 100km around town is about normal for a petrol 80. What are you getting?
You said it is a great car but what would get instead? A diesel 80? A petrol patrol? or would you drop down to a smaller 4wd?
I would personally go down the LPG road since the government is paying 2K towards it. I am not too sure how they run or what sort of range they get on lpg but there are a few out there so it must be a good idea.

Bye Bye 80 Series............Hello XR6T

Get it gassed...there is a 97 4.5 gxl with twin airbags on ebay for 12200 and no bids..they are not selling, so it will be a loss if you sell like it is, get injected gas for 3500 with 200 rebate, costs more but better outcome. Gas should add 10% to consumption but a more realistic figure is 15-20% but with wollies discount you are paying 50c/l....put a 120 tank under the bum and it doubles as a long ranger....u will need rear springs to hold the weight, and a swing out carrier or a roofrack and a spare up there...

thankx for the replies.
at the moment im getting 18 - 20 l/p 100km if i didn't have the 80 i'd probably be looking @ a diesel either another 80 or a patrol.
what's people's experiences with sports exhausts and extractors has anyone found improvements in the fuel consumption when these are fitted?
Cheers, Nathan

full exhaust with extractors is about $1500 fitted & uni chip is $1200 fitted.
this will save you maybe 2-3 lt / 100km
You could try gas but not the best for long range touring
You could get a 190L long range tank $1500 fitted. It will cost you about $350 to fill up but you wont have to do it again for 2-4 weeks so this gives you a false impression that its cheaper to run
You could by a 1hdt diesel but that would cost you another 15k with the potential of needing to have fuel pump and or injectors rebuilt (another $2k or so)
or you could just accept that all that power has to cost you somewhere and for us petrol 80s owners its at the bowser......
