have you considered the endless air type option ?

I have used 12v units in the past but havent seen enything match the speed of a modified a/c compressor. I know speed isnt a primary concern for you but you will be spending big $$$ to get a good 12V unit anyway.

IF you are definate in only using a 12v unit then i fitted one of those "bigboss" ( i think that what its called) from TJM to a mates truck with a tank and pressure switch and it worked well.

Make sure you have a good look around as most of the cheaper compressors will fail quickly when running long duty cycles as you will require in pumping 38in tyres.

IF IT DOESNT, CUT IT DOWN

i would not mind endless air but i am running aircon and i dont see much room to fit another compressor in anywhere.

its pretty tight around the front of the engine.

There is usually enough room to squeeze one in. I have also seen someone run one off the back of the t-case via a PTO.

bit more than i wanted to spend tho.

will have a look and see if i can fit endless air in there.

just that i have custom turbo manifold hanging everywhere so makes it harder.

another vote for probag, mine rocks
one tip get the biggest tank you can fit, or a couple of tanks I'm only running a 9L tank and she runs out too quick, even still the boss impressor is still faster than any other compressor out there at the moment I think

a bushranger max air will cost $389. it puts out 72L per min.
