Just heard some updates on Group A from Denian as follows -

~ Denian is quickly turning from a sand property to a mud property :P They have had 35mm of rain in the last 2 days and there is water everywhere.

~ It's not raining there at the moment but can see lightening in the distance.

~ They were able to run all stages today

~ No one has driven the sand wall and not expected to either.

~ Sand wall is the down side of last years sand wall stage and approx. 70 degrees with a standing start

~ Ian Paltridge & Roger Humphries have driven the furthest up the wall but took out a peg in the process :bad-words:

~ Thai team drove a fair way up the wall and winched the rest in a good time.

~ Second Thai team had trouble setting ground anchor but still finished inside DNF.

~ Motorkhana times are around 3-4mins.

~ Previous years the motorkhana times have slowly got quicker through the week but the rain is making the sand heavy and times were the same as yesterday.

~ Neil Cooper & Chris Hummer spent a fair amount of time on 2 wheels on a hairpin during the motorkhana and had a lucky save.

In other news -

~ Skies are clear in Broken Hill at the moment so everyone is keeping their fingers crossed for a clear, sunny & windy day tomorrow so the roads can be re-opened

~ I was still hoping to head up there tomorrow to watch some action on Thursday and Friday but it's looking very unlikely now.

Cheers, ;)

Just had a call from Todd and Ivan ( pretty sure they are group B) they are still waiting for the roads to be opened. The boys said the mud stage was awesome and Rohan and Wayne loved it too.
Rohan and Wayne did not take the 100 point penalty and they are all going well.
Hopefully I will get some more feedback tomorrow.

To The Fish and everyone else, thanks for all the info. My sons are so happy to know all the updates on the OBC and especially to hear what their dad (Todd) and Uncle Ivan are doing. The photos are great too.

Thanks again,

Lis Robards

Latest updates from Group D at Nundooka are -

- Both winch wall stages completed yesterday

- Todd & Verena Joyce broke a windscreen on one of the winch wall stages.

- They also ran a goot run style stage without many dramas.

- The arvo creek run stage (creek from last years cliffhnager) had water in it in places. Marshals checked it out and they decided to un th stage.

- Lawrie Sternbeck & Sen Calcino were the first team on the course and hit something hard in a water hole and broke both passenger side axles. They had to be recovered from the hole and the stage was called off. Lawrie & Sean have repaired the Lux and are all go

- Group D is at Packsaddle and hoping to be given the go-ahead to return to Broken Hill and re-group in readiness to head to Denian/Viewmont if the conditions allow.

- Group C are doing the Poolamacca stages from yesterday today.

I'm picking up a camper trailer in a couple of hours and leaving this afternoon to hopefully see some action and if not have few beers with the competitors.

So unfortunately my last update will be this afternoon :D

Cheers, ;)

Just heard from Rohan and Wayne
Think its an old text but yeah they overheated badly from a stuffed thermostat buggered the two thermo fans. Fixed one fan so the engine seems OK but the freespool mechanism shattered on the winch. (thats something Rohan had machined up for the race, not part of Waynes standard twin motor setup)
They didnt take the outside assistance penalty and are running without a winch    .

Only going to do stages that dont require winching.

Everyone still stuck at their respective properties due to road closures.

Just heard from Sean Calcinos' wife Mandy, she was talking to Sean this afternoon. They were carrying spare axles & everyone in their group got in & helped repair it & repair tyre damage done in the water, great effort guys.

Said they are going well & having fun.

We are in the change rooms with the showers great smells denco rub and urine!!! Watch out piggys getting excited....

We are travelling with group D and made it out of Nundooka but roads closed everywhere. all other teams still where they were before.

A is denean

to the Fish,
, travel safely and hope you can post anything to keep us going!

Thanks for keeping us all updated.

Has anyone got some pics of the soaked action? i can understand if no one has been able to get back to Broken Hill.

By sitting here at the PC it makes you realise why you always try to be a part of this event and how unique it is.

Any outsider could quickly see that even at the high end of 4 x 4 comp, it is far more about people with a common interest hell bent on experiencing a great sport.

wish all competitiors, marshals and spectators the best and make sure you all make it into silverton on saturday to top off your huge efforts.

I hope Paul, Sharyn and staff have kept it together?....very testing conditions....

wish i was there.

Sorry

the utube video is too big to load from here so everyone will have to wait to see.

To top my night off i locked the keys in the car with the grog and our swags!!!! oh dear it will be hours before the NRMA get here from broken hill as the storm is still raging. everyone has had a go at getting in to it with no luck.

Oh well lucky we got the puter and camera out first!

bye 4 now

Trudi

PS thanx moose.........does that count you???
