Headgasket sealer?
Im putting the heads back on my Landrover Discovery v8.
I bought geniune head gaskets.
Do I need to put on any type of sealer , glue or goo of any type on the gaskets or just plain as they came?
Thanks

They can go on clean, or you can choose to use a VHT product called Coppercote, or any of the similar products.
I use coppercote on high comp motors, or ones that will see a blower or nitrous.
It isn't nessesary though, on anything near standard, unless they have head gasket issues.

If it needs glue or goo then there's an underlying issue!muddydigger wrote:Im putting the heads back on my Landrover Discovery v8.

17 years in the trade and never used goo, never needed goo!

I know lots of workshops that wont fit a single gaskit without it. Its good insurance.simkell wrote:sense a trend hylomar. $15 a can from memory
Dont get me wrong. Coppercoat as CRUSHU posted is also a perfect alternative. And possibly better in some aplications such as Copper Headgaskits used in Turbo and Blown engines.
NO standard composit gaskets.460cixy wrote:copper spray or hylomar. i assume your useing the thin stainless gaskets?
Thanks for the replys. There isnt anything wrong with the heads they were just cleaned up. I dont need to use any goo just wondering if it was neccessary.
