Headgasket sealer?

Im putting the heads back on my Landrover Discovery v8.
I bought geniune head gaskets.
Do I need to put on any type of sealer , glue or goo of any type on the gaskets or just plain as they came?

They can go on clean, or you can choose to use a VHT product called Coppercote, or any of the similar products.
I use coppercote on high comp motors, or ones that will see a blower or nitrous.
It isn't nessesary though, on anything near standard, unless they have head gasket issues.

I always use hylomar. Its available at most auto shops and you just spray it on. I use this on almost any gaskit.

yup ... Hylomar :cool:

just spray'er on. any over spray in the cylinder doesn't matter, will burn away in first combustion stroke.

I use hylomar too. Not cheap but lervely stuff.

If it needs glue or goo then there's an underlying issue!

17 years in the trade and never used goo, never needed goo!

I know lots of workshops that wont fit a single gaskit without it. Its good insurance.

Dont get me wrong. Coppercoat as CRUSHU posted is also a perfect alternative. And possibly better in some aplications such as Copper Headgaskits used in Turbo and Blown engines.

NO standard composit gaskets.
Thanks for the replys. There isnt anything wrong with the heads they were just cleaned up. I dont need to use any goo just wondering if it was neccessary.

Coppercoat worked well, my old Mazda used to have stuff all clearance between no1 and no2 cylinders, without the coat it would blow in no time
