G'day Ryan,
Do the other gauges ( tacho, speedo and fuel ) still function properly? Do the dash lights still work properly? Only asking because if the rest of the dash works then it may be as simple as a dirty or broken connection where the engine harness joins back into the nissan wiring.
cheers lofty.

Temp and oil pressure guages move, but dont look like they are working accurate, its like theres a very weak or bad earth from the dash somewhere, but i dont know where to find it? is there any that run thru the sterio? as the sterio has been removed all thats left is the cig lighter and clock in the middle the rest is gone, all the dash lights work its just as if the guage/warning lights have a really bad earth??

even the 4wd light works but is very very dull

Ryan,
It does sound like it is an earthing problem, like yourself i'm not sure where the dash earth is located. Should be only one earth wire for the whole instrument cluster, also check the instrument cluster fuse and the wiring either side of this fuse. Sorry i cant be of any more help.
