4.6 Crank

I have a 4.6 crank in the shed came out of a low k 4.6 that cooked the heads.... whats it worth? Could it be fitted to a 3.9 short motor?

If you still have the rods and pistons it would be worth something ?

The mains and biggys are larger than a 3.9 , so it would only fit with machining , the longer snout won`t matter .

I haven`t put them side by side buy remember reading that the crossbolted blocks are cast differently and have more room for the crank to rotate .

What i read said a 4.6 crank couldn`t be fitted to a 3.9 .

Same goes for a 4.0 .

A 3.5 stroker crank can be used in a 3.9 , coarse with the rods and pistons to suit , for 4.7 .

Stroker crank , shortened chev rods , didn`t find out which pistons and many dollars would do it .

Thanks for that From what I have been told a 4.6 crank will bolt in to a 4L motor. They are the same block just different strokes. But i will ring around today and chk 100%

Correct.
But I think the rods and maybe pistons are different.

They can be fitted to a 3.5/3.9, you obviously have to re grind the mains... you could even offset grind the big ends and run the smaller journal rods for even longer stroke.......

you would need to possibly do some clearancing in the block and modify the sump but it all can be done... I have done one some time ago and by all accounts it is still going well..

Yep , the blocks 4.0 and 4.6 are the same , the 4.0 has longer rods but the internals can be changed as sets ,
what i meant was that you`d run into the same problem with the flywheels/balance weights with a 4.0 crank in a 3.9 block .

Giles says he`s done one so it must be possible .

I know the stroker crank needs some clearance work to fit 3.5/3.9 and the 4.6 has larger flywheels than a stroker .

All a question of money unless you know someone .

No worries , i`ve got a 4.0 block that i`ll get liners fitted to at some stage .

Rekon if i`m gunna do that it`d make sense to put the 4.6 stuff in it but the crank alone won`t do it .

If i come across some rods and pistons , i may contact you .

It`s a shed job so in no rush .
