LSD vs Normal
What is the difference between an LSD and a regular diff?
I understand one is limited slip and one isnt, and that toyota LSDs are pretty much crap, but if installing a lockright or similar, is one better to go for than the other?

There is no physical difference between the housing etc... you have to pull the gears of and install them onto the new locker carrier anyway.

Lockrights go inside the hemisphere, but as already said, wont fit inside a LSD hemisphere due to the different internals and disign to an open one.
Layto....

No not all come with the lsd, i had to shim 1.2mm either side of the lsd to make it work as well. Its easy to do but..danos wrote:A question about hilux's.
Do all the 4wd come with LSD? I couldnt find the sticker on mine but think it was removed to do the rust proofing.
Thanks
3.0L turbo diesel, 4" lift, bud's front housing, track assasin cv's, air lokker front + Rear, beadlock'd 37 stickies, high steer, 15.5" travel ranchos, high pinion diff and coils on the rear
when you by your lockright yo have to specify if it is for LSD or open, and whether it is for a 2 or 4 spider gear. the 4 spider lockrights are nuch much stronger, so get one for your LSD if you have it.
all that said, auto lockers are junk and cost more in the long run, get a driver operated locking diff (air locker, toyota, TJM etc) and you will save money and headaches.
