SHOCKER ABSORBER HEIGHTS!!!!!!!!!

Post by RaceRunner »

I have removed the original factory shock and spring mounts to make provision for some Triple Bypass and Coil-over shocks. Can anyone please tell me how to work out what height I need to mount my shocks, they are longer travel than the original setup?

I'm not sure how high to make my shock hoops. Is there a formula that I need to apply?

Any feed back would be good.

Are you able to travel suspension or gain access to a travel ramp , take measurements from bottom shock mount whilst travelled , if your shock is fully extended either measure or place it near bottom mount and this will show height of top mount , also do it on the compressed side to see if the shock will fit when compressed. I would lower the mount a little so you are not leaving shock at full extension as they can be damaged , plus it won't clunk on full travel , hope this make's sense , make sure you make a robust top mount , Cheers Paul.

To prevent of extenstion. Run a limiting strap. Basically seat belt webbing or similar. Use it to stop down travel. Just before the shock runs out. But really. Most susp systems us the shock to limit down travel ie rear patrol or LC, the shocks run out of down travel before the links bind.

Thanks for your reply, I underdstand that I need to measure the travel using a ramp, however, at the moment all I have are some portal axles without mounts and a bare chassis!!! Do I initially just put some hoops in roughly and then make changes once I ramp the vehicle??

Mate , what I did was build hoop as high as possible , obviously don't be ridiculous and there are that many shock companies out there , you will find one that suits your application , Cheers Paul.

For the rear I welded A 100x50 tube accross the chassis , with 16mm holes , to adjust shock position , then made a bracket that bolted to 2 of the 16mm holes and held the top rear shock's , Cheers Paul.
