ROPE SPLICING

Post by RaceRunner »

If you want to know how to splice the rope yourself, log onto this site:http://www.thecortlandcompanies.com/psrope/ and then click on the Technical link which will guide you into the rope splicing techniques step by step. Otherwise mooring and rigging supplies will know who to recommend for your splicing.

Puget Sound Rope manufacture Plasma 12 strand rope which is currently being used on our winches. Hope I've helped you out, good luck with the splicing.

If I was you I would check out that site at least, I personally think once you have done a couple of times its a piece of piss.
That way if you break it out competing or anywhere bush you can fix it yourself. Tying knots in ends only makes it break even easier.
If you do find someone though maybe ask for a bit of a tutorial.

You need to be able to splice your own rope so if it breaks on the track you can fix it.
I got the info off the Pirate site then went to a rope specialist that went through the set up with me a few times.
I've snapped the hook end once (doofus put it around a tree with out a tree trunk protector - never let some-one lead your recovery you don't know or don't have confidence in). I keep the diagram with pics in the car at all times as well as a needle with 3mtrs of strands to stitch it up.
Cheers
Andrew

You are right. I will get myself the gear to do it and study how to do it.

The old army pocket knives with the marlin spike on the back are good for splicing. Cost about 20 bucks from disposal stores
We've rolled the Rover over, over.
