Would you bother replacing these ??? HELP !!!

Post by Hof »

Hi all,

GQ Patrol, 1990.. Going touring for 6 months.. Just installed a 2.5" lift.. Now one wheel sticks out more than the other and the brand new springs are clearly on an angle, (Panhards) i know.. BUT!!

With the weight of touring gear I imagine this will be about 1.5-2" so would you bother with panhards?? or just leave it??

AND the steering wheel is out about 15 deg.. Are the steering components (ie tierod + draglink) reasonable strength or are they worth upgrading too??

Im really having a major dilemma over this and am not sure if this is worth spending money on, or just wasteful and paranoid..

Any advice would be most appreciated,

Cheers,

Hof

personally i wouldn't bother as my previous truck was a gq wagon with three inch susp lift and never touched the panhard rods or any of the steering components.yes you could see mainly from behind but i did plenty of touring with it and never had a problem.I now have a GU ute and the only reason i replaced the panhards was because i bent the originals. It will bring everything into line for its best alignment but if it's a matter of funds don't fuss too much about it.

what if it does let go somewhere durting the 6 months - for under a grand just replace them... Bit if extra insurance IMHO. 2 x panhards & stering links (drag and tierod)
GU 4.2 TD Garrett BB Hi-flow, M8274 + Bells & Whistles with plenty of fruit still on the list!

Wouldn't have thought they would be out to far with a sml lift like that. And for a tourer. The std panhards are strong enough, even though they are weak. As for the steering. You can if you want just take the steering wheel off and re-align it.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY....
