A couple of times - once just to hold a vehicle in place while we reset the "real" handwinch.

It will do the job if you don't have anything else.

Quick note in relation to cable failure and hand winches - the cable used in hand winches is much much heavier than that used in an electric winch as the jaws of the winch actually have to grab it.

The shear pins in the handle will fail or the jaws will slip well before the cable could ever break.

I have an ARB magnum ATM (that I am yes to use) but I have used a old (late 80s) "brano" hand winch heaps, often fur puuling my 2500kg Gwagen. It's hard work but has always done the job.

I don't particularly like electric winches - they tend to have limited use and usefullness if you have well set up car and travel with others.
