60 series diff swap
60 series diff swap
Hey all...Im planning on running 35's in the near future and i've got the opportunity to get front and rear 60 diffs real cheap and was wondering if anyone has done the swap could give me some advice on what to look out for.
Also i have access to a complete 60 series so what extra parts should i rip off to help with the diff swap.

I thought i'd reply here rather then to your PM so everyone may benefit from it
If you go the 60 power steering too, make sure to get the steering shafts. I used the zook drivesahfts for a while but then upgraded and used a 60 rear shaft and got it balanced and lengthened professionally too.
Depending obviously how many other mods you are going to do, but most of it should be a piece of piss to do. I had dramas with steering clearance issues because i'd mounted up my steering box before getting a draglink made to suite and checking for clearance with leaves because of my shackle reversal. But if you do it in the correct order and make sure to check al this instead of being impatient like i was you will be fine
The front diff pumpkin is offset like the zook one, but because of it's width it sits where you'd normally have your spring perch. So you will need to outboard your springs a little. this was easy for me because of the way i'd done my chassis extension and had a S/R so i had to make new mounts for the springs anyway.
The rear was very easy to do. I also moved my diff back as you know and moved the petrol tank back as far as i could too. but i think ZOOK60 never moved his tank back on his shorty when he done the same conversion, and he cleared ok. Something for you to check out.
The round flanges for the diffs are handy as you can redrill pattern to suite zook driveshafts too if you decide to go that way.
You'll need to most likely get custom brakelines made up anyway but it won't hurt to get any of the other brake components off the 60 if your not paying for them.
Nothing else comes to mind at the moment. But i'll try to chime in if i think of anythign else
Good luck with it sanger, hope you have it done before our next trip

Cheers Mark that helps out big time. Habib who will most prob will be doing the conversion wants to do a shackle reversal also and ill be doing SPOA using stock zuk springs.
As for steering i already have a vit steer box mounted to the chassis but i think ill use the 60 pump for more grunt to turn the 35's.
Well i suppose its time to stop wheb wheelin and "get r done"

Hey muz will prob only be stretching the wb a few inches just enough to clear. Im starting to enjoy the wheel up properties os a shorty it makes things more interesting
May be going hilux diffs now as they have more gearing options and easier to find spares.
Still undecided at the moment.

went with hilux diffs as theey were available and cheap. Have got them stripped down and building some armor then ill put a rebuild kit through them and fit them up. Will be running 35's and tie rod and draglink will be hex bar and heim joints.
