Im in Perth, can u tell me wat needs to be done or what the issues are.Ive had a quote of $3800 to convert to gas. That with the petrol tank been moved under the belly of 4wd so that the gas tank will go underneath at the back. They havent said anything about problems, but I suppose they would'nt as they want the job.I admit to knowing very little about 4wds although Ive been in plenty, this is the first one Ive owned and would like to do things right the first time. You say the heads have an issue with gas and petrol so does it shorten the head life by going to gas.The motor has done 175000ks and runs great any help would be appreciated thks

I had this done to my 89' Mav about 2 years ago. Cost $3000 for installation and paid for itself in 14 months. Installation includes 80 ltr gas tank at the back and a 60 ltr petrol tank next to the transfer case. It has a little less power on gas than petrol but is easier to drive offroad (no trouble keeping fuel up to the engine on steep angles). I have had to do the head since but I think it was pretty fucked before the gas installation. The head cost $800 to get welded, xrayed, machined & all internals reassembled. I then reassembled the head assembly to the engine. My engine had done 240000 when I had the gas installed.

Thks Mex.I think I will get it done as the money I save on gas will pay for the head if needed, although Ill have plenty off time to change my mind as I have a 4 month waiting period to get it done as no one seems to want to do the gas conversion and move the petrol tank as well, they want to put it in the back of the wagon.Don't no why, must be cause it's easier to do.I bought a big car for the room inside and see it as pointless if I put a 90lt tank inside.Have'nt checked out how much it'll cost me to get it done seperately but will check it out.If anyone knows someone who will do the job please please post info (I'm in Perth,WA).I just spent $1000 doing a service and a few other bits and pieces and feel I was ripped off.The car was running fine b4 and still is but when idling I can feel the timing is slightly out.Have taken it back twice but they still have'nt got it right.I don't mind paying the money but am really p#%$@& off about the service, its not like they are a small company although they dont specialise in 4wds you'd think they'd get a service right anyway thks for the info, gotta right a nice long email to there head office.Cheers

Mate i have a Impco 300a mixer and impco converter and gas line between mixer and converter i'm pretty sure i still got the air cleaner part as well.

Then all u need is someone to run the gas lines to the tank which will be located right in the back.

I just sold my fuel tank that uses to go under the belly but i think u can buy them as a kit pretty sure or i can see if a friend still has his for sale if u want.

PM if ur interested in buying the stuff as u will get a $2000 rebate and it might only cost u $1500 to fit everything up urself

the petrol tank they use is a belly tank available from ARB, TJM etc etc, you can fit that yourself under drivers seat next to chassis rails and save bux.. then remove the rear tank and take it into them pretty much ready to go.

dont play with LPG unless you understand it! , fit the long range tank, thats easy enough, this will be a LRA (long range automotive) tank and bolts up under the drivers rear.

get a duel filler in the filler flap dont just bore a whole in the bumper they look sh*t! and youl break your back when your filling it.

LPG tank replaces originl petrol tank and bolts directly onto your chassis, 100 litre usable.

heads are fine. worry about it when it farks up. just get your installer to use an upper culinder lube kit. this adds lube when it fires. gas is a very dry fuel. other than that youd be mad not to put it on gas, and they go well if you tune them right. epect to get around 350klm to a tank of LPG.

cheers
