GU 4.5 on Dual Fuel Range.... What to expect in economy

Post by nushcan1102 »

Hi all, this post means I am no longer a virgin.... Yihaa!!

I have just converted a second hand GU to Gas and am using about 90 litres of gas to travel 360 highway kilometres.
Just snuck in for last tracks before winter in the high country and used an abscene amount of gas, filled up twice without telling wife!!!!

What is the experience out there, is it just a tuning problem, the gas installer had only ever done one patrol but had a kit in stock rather than wait three month... DOH. Who should I go to in Sydney to tune it properly.

What is common economy for a 4.5 GU on Gas??
Any thoughts on a bit of hunting under petrol aswell??

Cheers,
Matt

Around town in a 98 auto running 33' tyres, i get 300k's out of a 90 lt tank. going up and down mt dandy, highway about the same you get, offroad i fill the lpg up at the last known stop and then use petrol topping up as we come across servo's as there's not many lpg outlets in the high country of vic. so no idea of milage
Has recently been dyno'ed at lpg1, and the millage stayed about the same.

She must be a stunner so you can get to the next motel quick, you have a clump foot or you need a tune-up. But seriously, I have first hand knowledge of people who have the 4.5, start the 'round oz trip, bail out and go home, trade in for a diesel and start again 18 months later. They are a very thirsty vehicle.

iv got a 98 manual 4.5
33 inch rubber
3 inch lift
exhaust/extractors

i get around 370 odd from 90l..doesnt seem to matter wether its around town or highway :?
but as soon as i hit that 4wd stick the consumpion goes through the roof.. and to be honest i dont use petrol at all anymore so couldnt tell ya what my sub tank gets..although being only 40l odd you would be hard pressed to get more then 200 km..!
iv heard of people getting 450 odd kays from 4.2's, but the 4.5 i think are all known to get the figures of 360km/90l.
im hoping a tune and chip will bring the consumpion down to around 20l/00km.

Diesel economy and cost comparison to petrol running on gas

Post by nushcan1102 »

thanks for the help.
On the Diesel suggestion, what is the comparison in economy and cost for the diesel.
What offers better economy the 4.2 or the 3.0 litre,
cheers,
Matt
