This works on carby(idle fix)

Well ive had the problem that many have had of late, a stalling idle below 2000rpm. now this is so easy, no need to pull the top off of the carby at all. A mechanic friend had a look at mine and when he looked at it he said he'd have to pull off the top of the carby to get inside to clean it but he said he would have no gasket for this type of carb.
Then he noticed the fuel cut off switch(i think thats what its called) on the side and said, great that will give me access. He unscrewed that and got his compressor with a blower attachment, and blew it out. he said what ever you do dont blow it out at full strength just a couple of short half powered squirts otherwise you can bend or jam the float up.
Do this with the air cleaner off. It should blow out a bit of fuel out the top of the carby. This had instant results, perfect idle straight away. So easy, and to think i was probably gonna take it to a carby place and get ripped off. never again

Here is a pic from another thread, ive circled the part needed to remove. it is located on the engine side of the carb.

yeh used them at work a lot (computers) works a treat. can get it for about 10 bucks from dick smith etc

why ?
there are 2 drain ports on the bowl !!
take them out & you have 2 points of access !!!

pulling out the idle switch , you can easily damage the wiring , causing MORE dramas !!

well, i can tell you undoing the drain holes and blowing it out didnt do squat when i did that the other day. And when i told the mechanic he looked at me and said dont do that! This doesnt damage wiring and unless your acting like a heavy handed oaf.
Piss easy one thing to undo!
And blowing straight in there is better for getting rid of crud that may be in there.

also whlie the motor is running , give a small blast of air down the primary venturi of the carby , also fixes idling probs !!!!

yeh pretty good. nothing crazy but more than enough to clear out dust and crap from a keyboard, we ended up wasting it all the time by giving each other frosties... on the arm :|
hard days work in the nerd office.

He said its something to do with the design of the aisin carbs it can cause some trouble.
Blowing into the drain hole isnt good, thats all i know.
I tried the blast of air down the carb but it didnt do anything.

I bought some time ago online an empty spray can that you can unscrew top, put anything liquid inside, screw back on, connect a tyre pump to schrader valve and fill it with compressed air, instant rattlecan. You could also just fill it with air if you wanted to for this application.

it works. had my carby reco 12 months ago and it just started stalling every time i slowed down. did the compresser fix, removed that choke thing, bit of air, reinstall and bingo fixed. runs like a watch.thanks cheers ron

you know what....i tried all of the carby fixes on this forum that ppl had suggested but to no avail. while i pulled the fuel cut off switch off i noticed one of my vacuum lines had dropped off the line into the carby....i fitted it back on and guess what?! hey presto....perfect idle at around 800rpm...so before trying all of these booty fab ideas....

wtf? what do you mean why bother? why bother checking the hoses? its because they play an integral part in operation of the carby! not having a dig ronoor...i'm just saying before trying everything else check the bloody vacuum lines! its the easiest thing and very easy to miss especially the ones that connect into the carby between the rocker cover and the carby....hard to see unless you get right on top and look down past the fuel cut off....

Check Vacume Lines!!!

Absolutly, these little bloody things have a habit of coming off on one end after bouncing around the bush all day. ABout 5 months ago I had a rough idling engine, a shaky clutch, and poor economy; it was a vacume line between carby and intake manifold.

hey ronoor my first post wasn't directed at you at all it was a general message for ppl to check the sometimes overseen basics like vacuum lines. as i said in my last post it wasn't a dig at you.

I bothered because people sometimes forget the basics... its great that this fix worked for you, fantastic actually, because I know how much it sucks to have a carby run like a sick mule.....

Anyway this forum needs more and less and posters!

LIVE? Mine barely knows it exists.
I suck, cough, choke and stall, therefore i am.

BTW, my accelerator pump doesn't seem to be delivering any fuel into the carby. I thought a fine mist of it was supposed to blow in there when you opened it up. What's the go? Can i fix it easily?
