may be a question for the dance but here we go. have a 92 2.8 lux. aftermarket safari intercooled turbo kit on it. 225,000km's. went wheeling on the weekend. big bog hole filled the cab back out not a problem coughed a little but pushed air out of the fuel filter no worries. vacuum pump on the back of the alternator for the brakes shit itself so i had no brakes. 20km of driving after that motor starts running a little rough not real bad but just awsome amounts of blue smoke. and has a slight knock in the top cover. bit of help would be nice so i can get some prices thanks guys.

sounds like you are burning oil, check you turbo seals. Also the knock in your top cover could be one ov your valves fucked or a hydraulic lifter jammed

could be alot of things...you mention fuel filter, if it was the air filter full of water, you may be looking for a new motor... best way to deal with this is...drop oil and have analysed...cost $7 at castrol or whoever you buy oil through..
pull out intercooler pipes, if oil runs out everywhere, you have stuffed the turbo seals, and that is the oil problem. If theoretically the turbo is spewing oil, you will have low oil level in sump. The rattle will be preignition of oil...
now...the 2.8 has a real issue with clearances head to valve to piston....if water got in there and bent a rod, 20kms later, the big end would be wearing out and piston would be touching head and valves....when you crank it does it sound normal or is there a miss in the noise from low compression???
as i said earlier, oil test will reveal big end problem, intercooler oil test will point to turbo seal.

after coming out of the hole i checked the air filter for water and it was dry as, which was a big sign of relief. rang a guy in granville sydney today about my turbo between 800-1200 bucks to re-do my turbo (auto-tech) mate has had a few of these and wreckons i have cracked a piston or so. RESULTS- just got a call number 3 cyclinder is 25psi lower then the rest. seems interesting.

b4 u do that do some surfing on ebay aswell as pickles.com...u will pick up a whole lux rolled for less than the rebuild will cost. also ebay sell shitloads of turbos and 3 litre diesels..the 2.8 is renowned for doing this, you may have got some water in and have bent rods aswell....just not worth fixin....sorry to hear all this...
