I have a mate who wants to be like me... don't we all... but unfortunately he has a leaf rear GU ute not a coil wagon. Can a SOA be done relatively easily? Do they need engineering and is there a beter way to get lift and flex without trading it in to buy a coil cab like i said ( aidan)
I am thinking, SOA rear with a few leaves removed from pack with 2" over std extended shackles. This should give about 2-3 inches of lift and then match the front coils to the eventual rear lift height. Without looking at the car it too much detail, it seems to be a simple cut and replace spring perch to top of axle, new bottom shock mounts and new U bolts. Does this sound right? does anyone make extended shackles for GU leaf rears yet or do other models fit in?
Help appreciated.

not a nissan driver (yet ) but I have done a few soa on zooks and the rear end is the easy bit as you said new perches on top , new shock mounts (if not on diff) realign pinion angle (point at back of transfer),check brake lines and brake load bias valve thingy .. extend it . you might need to look at tail shaft length depending on height , in a gu rear I reckon it would be min 6" lift with doing spoa only, then add lifted springs and shackles ( you could get some height if thats what you are after). thats all I could think of but as I said I haven't had a good look under a gu leafy before.
benhl...... good luck getting it engineered in sunny qld ... however the way u have said of doing it is about right.

coil conversion is easy. go that way instead of SOA.
Buy the erar section of a GQ chassis to rob the chassis mounts, weld these into your GU chassis (and shorten the Lweaf chassis as well). Get a rear diff out of a 4.8 wagon (H260) so you have matching ratios and bolt it under your now coil sprung GU.
ps, you will need to buy some rear coils and trailing arms but i figure youll at least know that

I would have thought that would give a lot more than 2-3" of lift... but I guess you should be able to calculate it fairly accurately to be sure.
I don't personally see the value in this exercise to be honest.

True i was thinking of removing leaves subsequently flattening the springs to get flex and keep hieght to a minimum. But in light of SOA being illegal in QLD it looks like we are back to coil conversion.
I did tell him.....
