im not sure it will be sold here either, unfortunately.

the one i saw was at chrysler/jeep milperra,

the exact vehicle driven by angelina jolie in the new tomb raider film

dont ask me why they have it, but one rubicon in aus is better than none

ive spoken with jeep, they dont think there is a market is australia for such an 'extreme vehicle'

Planb,

Are you 110% certain it was a genuine rubi tomb raider?
I've seen one - but it was a regular Aussie TJ just dressed up.
I've heard a few excusses from Jeep Aust (some rumour some first hand), but I believe the REAL reason we will not see the rubi here is becuase NONE have been built in RHD.
That's right NONE of the RHD markets have the rubi.....

But I do agree there would be a very small market here and those that really wanna go extreme will probably not opt for the rubi anyways - since you still only get dana44's and you still need to beef up a few things like the suspension arms etc......

BTW I believe there WAS 2 RHD Rubis in Aust at one stage for ADR testing, but I was told they were destroyed (ie were SPECIFICALLY for testing).... :bad-words:

dude, thats the one they use in teh film,
but the "REAL" rubicon that they sell over in the US, or even the "Tomb Raider" edition of Rubicon leaves a lot more to desire for. :D

i spoke to one of the jeep dudes last night, he said that there is definitely a demand in aus for the rubicon, and that Chrysler/jeep recognise that.

the problem they face is that the rubicon will not meet aus adr compliance.

i asked him what specific components on the rubicon dont meet adr compliance, and he said the tyres.

the dude didn’t know shit,

he also said that individual dealerships could order you a rubicon and sell you one in aus (lhd) but why would anyone do that if it couldnt meet adrs.

i said that one could just change the tyres, smirked and walked away.

If the rubicon you guys are talking about is the tomb raider one that's at the motor show... have a close look over it. Seems to me it was slapped together pretty quickly, not a huge fan of it. Check out the right rear shock versus exhaust mounting battle that's going on.... the exhaust is pressing so hard against the shock it's flattened that side of the shock !!
On a side note, i thought even heim joints are illegal in the US for road use ?! true not true ? Cause all joints in the suspension and all that i could see in the steering of this thing are heims, they're all stamped superlift, that would mean a lotta jeeps in the states running illegal, and potentially unsafe superlift suspension. Feel free to correct me ;)

Heim style joints are illegal for steering, not suspension - well as far as I know anyways....
The main thing is they can't be metal on metal - most (inbc SkyJacker, rubicon express, teraflex, etc) have some sorta teflon coating to prevent metal on metal....

The TombRaider jeep WAS blue tacked together - because it's mostly for show - the genuine Rubi is truly an imspriational little rig - BUT the reason we'll never see it here is becuase they'll not make it in RHD...Just like the poms are missing out...ADR's IMHO is just an urban myth/excuse.....

Whilst we may never see the Rubicon as a "whole" what do you reckon the chances are that some of the technology may make its way onto the options list for the standard TJ? Lockers? Gears? Front 44? etc?

Seems a hell of a waste to got to all that engineering effort for only 8,000 Rubi's without taking bits and pieces from it for use in standard TJs (especially the lockers).
Apparently people think I'm too patronising (that means I treat them like they’re stupid).

it couldn't be _that_ hard to convert it to rhd could it? just get an aus spec wrangler and swap whatever you need over?

or you could save sh*tloads and just buy a wrangler over here, fit lockers and get some custom 'R U B I C O N' stickers made up and she'd be done :D

it looked like it had been offroaded. the underside was all dusty and dirty, and the tyres were used. but not much clearance on the wheel arches
