TDI Starting Probs

Post by DK »

Ok guys my 300tdi dont start no more

I'll give u a quick rundown on whats been happening

Truck runs dual batteries and turbo timer...Now the 1st thing that started happening was very ocassionally i couldnt turn the engine off..I would turn the key and the battery light would come on but the engine would continue to run until i disconnected the battery....

Then 2 weeks ago it started to struggle to turn over but always managed to start...I guessed dead battery but had them tested and the main batt is fine and the 2nf one is ok but wll need replacing soon...

Yesterday i tried starting it and had nothing so i tried again and this time i heard a relay or the battery isolator click in and i had power..The engine turned over but would not start then i could just here the above mentioned clicking noise and the engine would not fire....

So what i need to know is there a relay on the ignition system that might be causing this?

Could the batt isolator be shagged out(this is my guess as it was quiet warm after tryin to start)

Or am i totally off on the wrong track

Please help!!!!!!!

ok being diesel the way it shuts off the engine is to switch off the pump...
so if it is hard starting and wont switch off the trigger to the pump would be where im looking at first.. unfortunatly i have no idea on your engine as to what to look for..

cheers mark

Thanks for the reply Mark

I am starting to think maybe the fuel shutoff solenoid is not closing off properly or possibly not working at all....

If it was closing or stuck it would remain powered hence the power drain and if it was not opening it would explain the hard starting
