Death wobbles

Hey guys i have a 80 series has 5 inch lift 36x12.5x16, have done ajustable panards, caster plates, every thing is new, but have not done return to center sterring dampener. And i get the fucking death wobbles, not good. its not the normal little bit of a shake it goes off its head. Can anyone help???? im sick off buying new jocks!!!!!!!!!!

is the wobble there all the time or only at cretian speeds?

is it a vibration wobble or darting across the road?

i had this problem in my 80, it was around the same as yours, i tried everything..

it was the bushes (although they were new also) in the panhard rods.
i replaced them with factory toyota rubber bushes and never had another problem.

i would put in a a new steering return to centre set up in it

check your steering box for freeplay there shouldnt be hardly any, left to right free travel without actually moving the wheels if u understand what i mean

ive had these 2 problems and now that i have fixed them no longer happens

you got to think toyota didnt design your steering box and steering stabliser to handle 36" tyres so you need check this stuff out

It will either be your castor still isnt correct or you have loose bushings, most likely in your panhard, a steering dampner wont really solve the problem it will only mask it a little.

My mate had them in his 4" lift, he bought the big mother of a RTC reduced the wobbles alot. Turned out his front arms were loose. Big RTC is now just for looks.

I'm with mud4b. just did mine last week. had new ones that were useless, replaced them with Toyota Orignals, no more wobbles......

going against what everyone says... i rekon castor plates are too much for a 5" lift...

castor bushes or dropped arms are the go

the plates may be cheap but... in the 4wd world cheap = nasty...

simple truth..

What the???

Castor bushes only give you 3 degrees at the most? why would you use them if you need 5 degrees? plates will give you more than bushes.
Arms are the ultimate if you can afford them.
Castor plates are a good bolt in fix. when everything lines up and is right weld them in there. I dont tink they are a cheap fix, but they are a good budget option.

I would also be very suprised if thy have anything to do with the death wobble that 80WEPN has. I know what it's like, you are just crusing along, hit a bump and the thing feels like it's going to fall apart. You have to stop the truck to make it go away.

Just read all the replies again and am baffled at where there is mention of castor plates??????

I would check your swivel housing bearings if everything else is ok as you say, disconnect steering arms and check for tightness through the central part, if this is obvious replace bearings this is what motor bikes get when steering head bearings become worn and they get the "tank slaps'" usually a lot more scarier than a fourby gets as your only on two wheels doing 200 ks.
